@Home will run fine with 98SE and regular old IE.

I use shaw@home, and I didn't installed any of the thing on the cd.

As far as I can tell, you don't really need to install anything from the cd.

You only need computer name thats it. Why would you want to refer back to win98se? ME is faster,,just my opinion

Just DON'T install the new IE(above 5.0) unless you wanna be stuck under a very slow proxy(that you can't get rid of)
actually i know how to get rid of it because i don't have the proxy anymore, but im not gonna say how i did it because it's a LONG story.

You don't need to anything in: control panel/internet options/connections/lan settings, make sure everything is unchecked.

In control panel/network/identification you need your computer name as assigned by @home.

TCI/IP properties: per @home instructions.

There's nothing on the @home disk you need

i think i'm going to switch to win 95 back from me.. me just uses so much more memory.. it's faster but i don't like that there isn't almost anytime more than 0 mb ram free.. in win95 i used to have 10-50 mb free.. total 96 mb ram in my comp.

Dude, don't go to 95, it sucks. atleast go to 98se. 95 is way too buggy, trust me.

If memory is a concern, just know that ram is dirt cheap right now...I put 512meg ram in my system for less than $200

ME is a system resource hog, plus it is blot ware ( takes up 600 + meg ).

One more questions:
Why do you recommend IE 5.0 vs. IE 5.5 SP1 for @home service?

If you would disable system restore I believe your problems with ME would be solved.
Right click My computer, properies, performance, File system at bootom, then click on trouble shooting, click on disable system restore, then reboot

Lobo,

Currently my system resources is 65%

I already have it disabled. This is my Pc specs:

AMD T-bird 900mhz
128 megs ( 133mhz ) ( ME problemly needs 256MB )
Nvidia Riva TNT2 32meg AGP
IBM HD 40 gig ATA100

The only thing I have in my system tray is

Zonealarm Pro
Norton AV
Adaptec create CD

Msconfig shows:
Startup for Norton, Zonealarm, Adaptec Easy-CD creator, Intelli-mouse and regalur ME startup stuff ( PC HEALTH, Task monitor ).

I use Zonealarm also, also have same mouse, but I hate Norton because it is a resourse hog, disable it and see what you have

RE: computer name

I have made up my computer name many times and it still works. I'm with Shaw@Home.

All you need is

1. Your IP
2. Your Subnet
3. A gateway
4. A couple DNS servers

Anything else doesn't matter on @home in my area at least..

I do this with my laptop from work and I don't have to change all the crap so I can still get on the network at work.

Hope this helps.

All you need to do is too add acouple of things into your settings.

put yourself into the @home workgroup.

Secondly, put the computer name provided on the recipt into the name of computer.

Thats it!
