@home cap FTP's ?

Post by gtcrispy »

Hi, I've tried running an ftp server.. The person uploading has an uncapped bandwith but the upload speed was only around 20k +-7
Someone told me they were capped. Can anyone help?

Thanks

1) Can you download files faster than 20K/sec?

2) Does your FTP allow you to throttle your bandwith (control how fast a user can send and receive data)?

3) Is your friend throttling his bandwith?

4) Is your friend thousands of miles away?

5) Can your friend send data to other people over 20K/sec?

Just some questions you might want to answer, might solve your problem. :)

Try adjusting your FTP server software.

Also, that *is* a pretty far distance.

I could see 20K/sec being recieved when you are using an overloaded cable/dsl ISP and receiving data from another cable modems/dsl user thousands of miles away.

Try modifying your RcvWindow...

Check your connection out: http://forums.speedguide.net/optd.shtml

Try some patches/tweaks listed on this site. They really helped my "download speed" for sites that are thousands of miles away.

Ok thanks for the help. I went and got the patches but haven't tried it yet. I was mistaken and he lives in Ohio, so thats not as far away from me. Anybody else one ftps off @home? What speeds do people get uploading to you if they are uncapped or have a higher cap then 128k?

Thanks
Kevin :p

I run an FTP off RR cable and my cousin in Iowa can upload to me at 250k/s from his connection. Oh yeah, I live in Texas so theres about 1,000 miles between us and we always get great speeds off each other.
Test running..........
** Speed 445(down)/131(up) kbps **
(At least 8 times faster than a 56k modem)
Logged result.
Finish.

Not fast enough....

be careful because most cable isps don't want you to run any kind of server. It's in there AUP of things you can and can't do. and running a server is something your not sopposed to run servers. This hogs and clogs all of the bandwith in the area
