Earthlink Mail Program Problem With Router

I have a Belkin High Speed Router and every time I open up the Earthlink's mail program, it gives a message that I am offline/not connected to the mail server, but every time I open it without the router it works perfectly...
Will forwarding a port to the mail program help?

Hi there. Hope your well today. I just found your article on the forum here about earthlink not working with our router, states it is offline. I have that same problem. What did you do to fix it? Thank you sooooooooooo much. I am about to go crazy
