lost provider password

Post by DickDiver »

Hi,

we share out internet in our home. Unfortunatley we took it over from someone who already moved on and he left us his hardware and internet connection. The problem ist that we cant update our router Netgear FVS318 (atm V1.2 :( (( ) cause we have to reconfigure it manually and dont have the provider password.
All we have is the username...as it is shown in clear text in the setup.

So I ask two things. We can back the router settings to a file. So may it be possible to update the routers fw and to play in the old settings ? And the important thing is, is the password stored in a back up file?

If that does not work, well there seem only one possibility left. To scan in any way the setup-backup-file to find out in any way in clear text the password. Well that would be in a certain way reffer to hacking and I dont know if possible and if it is allowed to aks for here. All under the assumption that the pw is stored crypted or so in the settings backup (netgear.cfg).

sincerely

Easiest thing to do is call up the ISP and have them change the PPPoE password for you. I run into this situation often with clients who have lost or can't find their password.

wELL, cant believe it but I think I solved it super easily :D

Just start your browser and log into the web remote setup. With the username and login screen for the provider.

Then start a ethernet sniffer. I used UltraNetSniffer, with Iris I got no luck, and refresh the page.

Voila, you got the provider login in cleartext ^^
