Jury Duty

Post by wee96 »

Dah well ill goto jail if I dont do it. Never done it before, I guess from what I gathered you get "screened" by the lawyers (hmm doesnt that pretty much make the whole thing biased?) and if your chosen your in the case. At least I get paid at work and what 2 cents from the government?

Only thing I've done was a coroners jury. Oddly though, I found it quite interesting. Just go in with an open mind and you never know...you just like find it interesting as well.

Prosecution gets to pick 6 and defense gets to pick 6 so its evenly biased unless they choose poorly.

i did a week on a multiple account murder trial, very interesting and wasn't that bad, made me appreciate the way the whole system works.

even the prosecution goes out of their way to stress that the accused is inocent untill proven guilty.

was too bad that the main defence witness changed her story on the stand from what her depostion was, that was pretty much the end of it IMO.

That's where they kill you first... and then make you a part of the jury.

arg worst thing to do if you ask me.. I hated it.. I spent the last time all damn day in the sucker got paid for 8hrs from being off work but the other 5 I didn't get squat. Best way to get out of it is when the judge goes through reasons you don't feel you can do it just raise hand and say yeah I don't think I feel like I can judge this case fairly. blah blah next time I'll be as smart as half the people around me when selection time came. Its a civic duty but should only be a once in a lifetime thing!! It down right sucks!

Just do it. Your employer will pay for your time.

It can be boring and it can be interesting and you'll meet a lot of other people that don't want to be there either.

I've gotten lucky so far....you call the day you're first supposed to show up, see if you're still in need or not. So far both my times have been cancelled.

Which is good, because I'll end up losing money by getting stuck with one of these.

Agreed with Poptom. Just do it.

I can certianly see the misgivings of those in business for themselves. It's a sacrifice.

When your getting remembrused by your company to serve, then it's not a big deal.

Think of it as duty to your country. Also think of it this way. If everyone tried to get off except the unemployed, retired and mentally ill......do you really want a jury by your peers made of of those who might not be at least somewhat sympathetic to accusations made against you?

Food for thought.

Yea I dont mind doing it at all actually. I'm not gonna lie and say something to get out of serving, if they want me im happy to do it. Believe it or not I can actually be serious and fair when need be. Betcha half of you didnt know that! :)

:D Me too, cuz I get the night off of work, even though it wouldnt interfere with my shift.

But they'd probably not pick me cuz I'd be all happy about getting a day off.

I've never been asked, fringe benefits from not having and not voting (well, until this past Presidential Election) for the past 10+ years.

I heard you can just throw that ship away and say you never received it. Has anyone done that?

You basically rule on deaths from your county. If it's either a murder, suicide, natural, ect. I actually got on local TV cause of a case we ruled on. Was a murder case.

From what it says you can get jailtime for that, maybe it depends on the state. I havent voted in along time either, so I dont think that has anything to do with it.

Just tell the lawyers about your militia membership and how you don't recognize the gov's jurisdiction over it's citizens. You'll be home in time for lunch (tho the FBI may be waiting for you there)

Some states are voter registration only.

Some are both voter registration and drivers license to make a better cross section of potential jurors.
