I just thought I would share a little different perspective on my feelings between the two. They both have a signifigant meaning to me.
Christmas is the celebration of a birth.
X-mas to me represents the day that Christ was taken down from the cross. The x representing the cross after it was laid down to remove his body.
One is in rememberance of Christs birth...the other a humble reminder of his death.

Isn't the "X" Greek for "Christ" or something? Think I heard that somewhere before.

I was always taught it wasnt proper to abbreviate Christmas and I should never write it the other way.

Big fan of not abbreviating it. Great and all if it is supposed to be chi... but chi is distinctive from X or x. It's more common use is either laziness or wanting to take the christ out of christmas. His birth, lets leave him in there

If he were applying my theory Lefty...I would think the three x's signified the three fallen crosses...possibly
