rock & roll!

Post by steve »

I don't know what is going on, but my download speed has hopped up significantly today, maybe my "tweaks" and others are paying dividends.

My connection rocks this morning anyway:

BCTEL test:

Starting download test
Http request: http://speedtest.mybc.com/5meg.test
Http connection opened in 0 milliseconds
Test performed in 16590 milliseconds
Total bytes downloaded: 5242880 bytes
Throughput: 2.411091 Mbps

Toast.net :

Text Test (Results)
Loaded 1,000,000 bytes in 4.17 seconds.
Your throughput is 1918* Kbps.

dsl reports verbose test:

Test running..Downloaded 60900bytes in 830ms
Downloaded 696000bytes in 3730ms
First guess is 1492kbps
fairly fast line - now test 2mb

Shhh! They'll hear you!!! Last time I "boasted" about getting speeds back, within 24 hours I was at-near dial-up speeds for three days! ;)

Whoa!!!! You used the U of M speed test??? They set that up to test the U of Michigan/Ameritech ADSl program I believe. You should see what running that test from within the U of M system yields! I did it at about 6:30 in the morning once, before classes started... think I got closer to 9Mb/s!

Just tried it on a whim, it seemed a lot faster than the others. I don't use web sites for speed testing much anyway, much better to ftp files from fast servers and check that way.

New personal best, from DSLR's "slow" server
(West Coast)

Test running..Downloaded 60900bytes in 600ms
Downloaded 696000bytes in 2250ms
First guess is 2474kbps
a FAST line - now test 3mb
Downloaded 1679100bytes in 4720ms
Upload got ok 1 bytes uploaded
Uploaded 1bytes in 170ms
Upload got ok 1 bytes uploaded
Uploaded 1bytes in 220ms
Upload got ok 1 bytes uploaded
Uploaded 1bytes in 160ms
Upload got ok 50000 bytes uploaded
Uploaded 50000bytes in 660ms
Upload got ok 750000 bytes uploaded
Uploaded 750000bytes in 6210ms

** Speed 2845(down)/1001(up) kbps **
(At least 56 times faster than a 56k modem)
Logging result
Finish.

Your download speed : 2845932 bps, or 2845 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 347.4 k/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 1001669 bps, or 1001 kbps.
Your connection rocks .. above the 1mbit barrier!

MSN (yeah, I know it usually isn't close)

Your line speed:
2649.4 Kbps

327.7 K bytes per sec

Telus.net speed test results:

Starting download test
Http request: http://speedtest.mybc.com/10meg.test
Http connection opened in 0 milliseconds
Test performed in 26470 milliseconds
Total bytes downloaded: 10485760 bytes
Throughput: 3.0222893 Mbps

All I can say, is this is by far, the most consistent high speed I have seen, not bursting but sustained. I think I'm done tweaking for a while.

Thank the bandwidth Gods above! :-0)

UofM_TWH,

I'm in A2 also, only I'm on Media One. I had Ameritech DSL about 8 months ago, except I had trouble with it, the d'load speed got horrible, as slow as ISDN and below. Media One is pretty steady speed here when they keep they network upgraded, I average 700-800kbs...

Kelly, I'm on Media One as well. I get about the same average. Was on campus real early a while back and just stumbled on that speed test. I don't know why they disabled the upload part of the test though.
