cable really does suck

I am sick and tired of people complaining about there cable or bragging. Cable sucks period. Some reasons why are 1)unstable connections with rising and lowering bandwith 2) greedy cable companies that want to get mpre money and dont give a f**k about customers. Capped download and upload speeds at outrageouly low numbers like lol 25k download and 11k up. I just upgraded my dsl to 1.5 up/768k down. If you want a stable and reliable conenction it has to be a dsl connection.

My Cable Kicks Ass, DSL HELL SUX. "Cable sucks period", ha, you really do not know what you're talkin about cooler. My ISP is awesome and there Tech support is second to none IMO. I have never waited more than 5 mintues to speak or chat with a Tech Support Rep. (My ISP has a 24 hr chat Tech Support, hehehehehe). And I get awesome downloads and pings. How can you say that DSL is a reliable connection when the DSL provider in my hood is down at least 3 times a week. Get your facts straight before postin some nonsense like that on this knowledgeable board kid.

In some areas cable is great!

If you are can get OOL cable and don't you are just plain stupid. I get 3+Mbps/1Mbps during peak with super low pings.

i dont want to hear these stories about i get blazzing fast speed, lol probley at 3 a.m. in the moring and who the hell is going to host a game server at 3 a.m., i also forgot to say dsl's have the choice of static ips which cable modems dont. Also dsl's my dsl service has multiple ips for people on my network that never change. That is 2 advantages that cable doesnt have.

Cable is pretty good and I'd recommend it over any other internet connection (aside from T1+), however, Charter@home in Keller (Near DFW, Very near NRH), TX Blows hard, it goes down once every other month for a day, but it is only 30 bucks a month, and I get up to 700 kbps when I am extermely lucky, but it drops to 300-400 after a couple seconds, and my upload, to a good server is around 100 kbps but I rarely upload so I dont care if my up is capped or not, and I dont think DSL gets half as good speed, my friend who has DSL only downloads at 40-70 kbps

Fair opinion, as long as it's an opinion. I might be bias, but I have two modems, a GI 3100 SB capped at 3000 down/128 up, and I get every bit of it. My second modem is a 3com HomeConnect uncapped, because I work for @Home and it's my test modem. But, my service has gone down 1 time in 2 1/2 years, and thats because I switched from non-DOCSIS to DOCSIS modems. So cable really isn't that bad, every connection has it's problems, most complaints are out of frustration, thats understandable. I wouldn't want to pay for something I couldn't use. Besides, if I had to choose, it would definitley be cable. On most days you'll beat my upload, but your Digital Subscriber Line couldn't beat my download on it's best day.

Oh yeah, my IP is static, by the way, so are all 11 cust. I saw today, and Charter@Home here in Ft. Worth will issue up to five static IP stacks per account.

Residential DSL is trash in my area and in a lot of other areas in the US. 784Kbits per sec is WACK. I get bursts over 784Bytes off good fast sites and I average 250Kbytes. I don't think that Residential DSL customers can say that.

I have a gte dsl in the past when i had my 768/128k dsl plan i was downloading at 1mbit a sec and having a up load of 14k. Now with my upgraded platium package I get 2mbits down and an upload of 80k. I also get an ms of 27-50 in local game servers in my area. I like to see a cable surpass my upload rate and by the way my download and upload never change at all i always get the same no matter what time of the day.

You ever heard of Optimum Online Cable(OOL), it'll spank your WACK dl/ul rates. Dude, your makin a fool of yourself man, give it up.

Lol Optus@Home now limits the download, I will be rotfl when that happens to most of the cabel providers. You see I dont like sharing my line with anyone else I like having a connection i can depend on for web servers and game servers ANY TIME OF THE DAY.

Well, i am not going to try to convince cooler which one is better, I am sure that everyone has there own individual experiences. But for me cable is too sweet! though i do tend to agree with you cooler that there are sometimes differences in bandwith at times. But ever since i had started tweaking my cable with patches, i have had nothing but good download and upload speeds, low pings. So the difference in bandwiths dont affect me much. If you ask me Cable or DSL are pretty much the same. Both are a hell of lot better than simple modems.

Ok first thing you may get a couple of mbits per sec, but cable is not as good as dsl when it comes to gaming i am more of a gamer than a downloader and since the cable usually doesnt have good speed at 6 p.m. and into the evening the upload speed on cable is not that good unless you uncap it which is illegal. So to some it up dsl upgradablity and is stable and good for gaming and webservers. I dont know anyone that would use a cable for a webserver.

It's not a gamble AT ALL if you do the research and ask people that have the cable co in your area.

Here you get 3M/1M LOW pings during peak for $30.

DSL 768/384 LOW pings for $40...what would you rather have?

i am a gaming type of person i like lower ms and stablity rather than fast downloads i prefer faster upload rates than download, because of gaming servers and stuff this is why i like dsl better than cable dsl has a for sure upload and download rate. Also dsl has upgradabilty and you can get a 7mbit download sdsl plan.

I love my cable connection, I couldn't even think of going back to dial-up. Testing at dsl reports I get 2.2meg down and 910k up.
Doing the Dr.ping thing at that site I have the second best score of all the people that have tested in Louisana. My pings are usally less than 12ms to my gateway. I don't know if my IP address is static or dynamic, but it hasn't changed since I got cable about 4 months ago.

cooler1234, shut the hell up already. You haven't even made a point yet. You just keep rephrasing your previous statements. In some areas, cable destroys DSL, and in others, DSL beats cable. But I can guarentee you that NO internet service is a "sure thing". If the internet is backed up, it's backed up. If you're trying to download from a server that has a cap on their rates per user, you will ONLY get that speed. If a certain site is getting bogged down, your "sure thing" DSL connection isn't going to ram through everyone and kick everyone else out of the way, so you can get your constant speeds.

Besides, do you work for a DSL company or something? Seriously, no one can be that devoted to something that they don't control. Like with Prey, he's an obvious cable lover, but he can and DOES admit that DSL does beat cable in some areas. But in potential wise, Cable has the ability to get much faster upload/download speeds than DSL. If you have a pure, uncapped connection, there isn't any competition at all.

Now just give it a rest. We're making no progress here.

Thought this was a Cable/DSL Forum ? Not very DSL friendly are ya ? It really does depend on the area ,I'm in South Florida where cable is bad ,had it, tried it, got rid of it...Gone DSL and love it...Just because someone says something bad about cable or DSL theres no reason to get your shorts in a bunch ,don't take it so personal...Just a thought.

Prey, you probley uncapped your cable and that is illegal you are some cheap ass person probley around the age of 25 and you do not have a life. You probley dropped out of college and have a job that doesnt pay more than 10 an hour therefore you uncap your modem and brag on how good your cable is and how cheap.
