wireless bridge that supports WPA

Post by Blisster »

anyone know of a good wireless ethernet bridge that supports WPA encryption? I need to join several wired hosts to a wireless network that I do not have administrative control over. I want to get a low-cost bridge such as a Linksys WET11 or something similar that I can jack into a little 8 port switch and get these devices connected. Anyone have any experience with anything like this?

For WPA you are much better off getting 802.11g hardware.

However, just having WPA capable Hardware does not mean that you can Auto. log to the Network of your choice. If you do not have Admin rights, and thus cannot configure the security on the source side, you cannot Join any Secure Network unless the Admin gives you the Security info.

If you do have the capacity to configure the Wireless source, and client, this migh help, Wireless Security.

I am authorized to access the the AP, just not administrative access -- I have the SSID and the WPA key.

I understand wireless security fine, I was just hoping someone knew of a decent bridge that would require little or no reconfiguration of the access point.

WET54GS5..has built in 5 port switch too
or
WET54G...just a G bridge itself.

I've not worked with it, but it's a G Bridge that supports WPA.

I have the WET54G, there are a number of versions, the latest supports WPA, but the version 1 does not (sadly that's the one I have) so I am looking for a replacement too.

I'm looking at the

Buffalo AirStation 54 Mbps Wireless Bridge Access Point with AOSS - WLA2-G54L

as a possible replacement.
