I need better Upload Speeds

Post by jeff24680 »

Ok I have a cable modem form coegeco and I am running servers for games here and there but I need to know is there is anyway to get faster upload speeds of at least 100. Is there anyway to make your cable modem uploads speeds faster is my questions :)

What is your upload cap and actual upload speed? If you don't know your cap, contact your provider.

That depends on the area and provider. :) There's CLEC DSL and ILEC DSL, SDSL and ADSL, etc.

I asked b/c you may already be reaching your cap. If you are, you're out of luck, as you won't be able to get above the cap.

BTW, 45KBps is better than most and servers on residential cable are usually prohibited.

That's almost as fast as mine. I get 1.1mbps (about 135KBps). :)

We are lucky. We have high upload caps. Kbps (or kbps) = kiloBITS/sec. KBps = kiloBYTES/sec.

It's not possible and it's against the AUP/TOS anyway.

Tweaks won't help you if you're reaching your cap.

Optimum Online here at 1Mbps up :)

Hey, Mister Pain, should *I* switch to DSL to get higher uploads like you suggested to this guy? Oh 10ms pings to my gateway too.

Didn't think so.

Can you actually achieve that?

Conduct and post a test from dslreports.com.

I tried the dslreports speed tests...they did not yeild the same thruput then a closer (much closer) site.

They were in CA I am in FL...

This is what I did though. I sent two 1Mb files at exactly the same time to the same server via an FTP sesssion. My next post is the direct data from the FTP sessions.

Not if that is in fact the cap and there's enough bandwidth.

There's probably too many people, but that doesn't mean that someone else can't. Is it unusual, yes, but look at OOL. :) It's definitely possible technically, but unlikely.

Yes, I know, and it's about 2mbps, which is a lot greater than OOL and the few lucky @Home users that are getting around 1mbps.

260x2 is around 5mbps.

I can't get 5Mbps during one concurrent connection but if I have multiple connections (2 or more) they will add up to 5mbps. I think I am unable to transfer anything over 1 concurrent connection at 5mbps is because I have yet to find something that is able to receive a sustained 5Mbps over one concurrent connection.

hehe update I get 130 to 160KB/s right now.... kinda nice to have very close to T1 uploads ;) ... pity on those with 128kbps cap. (Oh HalfLifer my modem is not uncapped in any fashion). And if I run concurrent connections I can upload at my max of 1.2MB/s (but with the node overloaded I might be lucky to push off 500KB/s). But I base my upload speeds of a single connection so the game is fair.

HalfLifer why must you continually gloat about your upload speed? Does it make you feel superior you do know someone with a better connection will just come along and outdo you.
