Nearing the end of my first opinion piece for SG
Nearing the end of my first opinion piece for SG
I have to say, much harder than what I expected but I think it will be a good read. Just a reminder to folks that Philip has created this site with the idea of user inputs. Anyone can submit news, reviews, opinions, and have them published on the site and in some cases, even get paid to do so.
so if you have a new fancy schmancy product that you want everyone to know about or a piece of software that is worthy or even not worthy....do a review on it. I'm going to concentrate on opinion pieces so it can be carried over into the forums for further discussion....because it would be cool to discuss more tech related items here in the gen forums.

for SG reviews, does it have to be just network related info or can it be any piece of hardware/software?
I'm gonna be getting alot of cooling parts here soon and could gladly post a review on the details of each part.
heck im sure alot of us could post reviews about every part thats in our systems if thats allowed. What guidelines should we follow and how should we go about it if we do write one?

anything net or tech related. Hardware and software reviews are welcome.
My opinion piece is titled;
"How mods will save the PC gaming industry"
If you know others and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know others but know yourself, you win one and lose one; if you do not know others and do not know yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.UOD wrote:I'm thinking positive here, don't drive me to think bad thoughts of hurting baby seals.

The PC gaming industry is, by no means, "dying," but overall sales currently pale to its console brethren for the most part. It's just part of the ebb and flow of the gaming industry. This cycle has happened many times already.
Its pretty simple: a console cost much less than a PC suitable for gaming, the games are around the same $$$, and its possible to rent a console game to see if you really like (instead of playing a demo version).Jim wrote:http://www.mcvuk.com/newsitem.php?id=488

Like pirates or the past becoming the button down security folks, modders have certainly breathed life into many titles. Being a former Doom2, DukeNukem3D, Quake2 deathmatch fan, I can tell you that the shelf-life of the aforementioned titles were extended with caffeine fueled mod-mapped bloodbaths on home LANs and later, over the net. The wirters on Doom2 leased the engine with what they called the "10 thousand dollar XCOPY"... Half-Life spawning Counterstrike is probably the granddaddy of them all
I am looking forward to your piece, Evan.

Yep that is true and always been the case.
I see these debates come up all the time about PC Gaming dying....Modding is great for the community
Now if you want to say Modding is saving the FPS community...that may be and I wont disagree with that. but to say PC Gaming is dying as a whole I dont see.
