allowing other @home users to connect to my server

Post by nurotoxin »

I have a ATT @home connection, i have a lynksys router using DMZ host to let others acess my ftp and web server through it. Others that are not using @home or that are on a different node, can acess my server but most of my friends use @home and cant connect. they want to acess it and i just need a little help.

First of all what are you doing running a webserver and ftp server on @home network?, As you may aready know that @home doesn't allow servers to be run on there network.

ill say give it a few more weeks untill they port scan you and send you a email from Abuse@home.com warning you to shut your servers down or your Account with @home will be terminated for good.
if i were you i would shut them down before you get that email. :D

And if you think im lying about this why don;t you call them up and ask them.. Or ask people here at speedguide.net.

Quit running your servers!!! It's because of people like you that some of us have to put up with the 128 kbps upload cap!

I will report you as well.

And people running servers on @home network really slows other people down. meaning if you got alot of people running servers half of the others wont get good speeds because your taking up all there bandwidth.

I'm glad I don't live on your node! Bail now, man, before you get popped. @HOME scans me all the time (I set them up as a trusted address to avoid getting warnings from my firewall).

Have some consideration for the rest of us! I hate waiting to d/l my porn! :D

Sup people i Just learned of a little script for those of you that are on @home and use IE
click on
>tools
>internet options
>connections
>lan settings

in the field
>use automatic configuration script
check the box and enter
>http://proxy:8080

this script if not already there will increase downloads in IE only and will alow you to connect to other @home users in you node if they are running a webpage

and for you people that acuse me of stealing your bandwidth: http://home-members.excite.com/m_policies/attleasedmodem.html

Well, he has it coming to him. It's rather obvious that this guy either can't read or prefers to remain ignorant. Ok, sparky, here's the INFO from @home.
@Home Usage Policy
"You may not run a server in connection with the @Home residential service, nor may you provide network services to others via the @Home residential service. The @Home residential service includes personal Webspace accounts for publishing personal Web pages. Examples of prohibited uses include, but are not limited to, running servers for mail, http, ftp, irc, and dhcp, and multi-user interactive forums."

READ THAT. YOU CANNOT RUN ANY TYPE OF SERVER WHILE USING @HOME RESIDENTIAL SERVICE. If you want to run a server, you must be using @work. So in fact you ARE stealing bandwidth from those sharing the same node as you. Oh and if you read further down, you'll see where they tell you that you WILL LOSE YOUR ACCOUNT. :P

The argument here is who is right. The awnser is @Home. @Home's AUP is above all others The aup you are qouting is ATT's it works in conjuction with @Home. While ATT may not state that Servers are against the rules @Home does,If you want the privalage PAY for it. Be considerate and use residential services as they were meant to be used. It's not fair to the rest of us. Oh, and dont whine that we are baggering you about this you brought it apon yourself. If you want the privalage PAY for it.

The problem here is that these people want to read a legal release saying ATT is not responsible for any damage from you running a server(illegally) and read that to mean that it is ok to run a server .. The facts are it is not allowed on @Home but in todays stupid world you still must say we are not responsible for damage from a server even though you r not to run one .. please quit trying to use flawed logic and nonsense to justify the fact that you run a server. the quote you post is a legal release saying that ATT is not responsible for damage from your actions on the web even ones in violation of the aup .. it is not saying you can run a server it is saying if you do run a server and something happens you r responsible not att... Y would they put ALL OVER THE AUP that you cannot run a server then in a very small area and in legalese say ok run a server????? bandwidth robbers??

I don't know about your cable company? But whith RoadRunner if you are caught running a server. No matter how big or small or what time of the day or night. If caught you are banned from ever useing their service and Fined $5000.00. Hope you can afford that. MY neighbor got caught. So noe he is back on dail up. GoodLuck! :( Plus maybe your friends on Home cannot connect because Home Has those Ports Block. I know now after my neighbor and I guess A lot of other people got caught. They put a block on ours.
