I have been looking into IPv6 lately. There are a few things I have not been able to understand and was looking for some answers. IPv6 gets rid of ARP how does the MAC layer work now? It is supposed to auto configure but I dont understand how all this works. A second question I have is about hardware. Obviously routers switches etc need an IPv6 stack but how is the NIC card effected? There are more IPv6 addresses (128 bit) available then MAC addresses (48 bit if i remember right) on the NIC cards. Will a regular NIC card work or are there "special" IPv6 NIC's? It seems like we might be going down the same road again only this time we will run out of MAC addresses. Any information you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
