A thing of beauty, Thomas.
I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.

Although there is no fear of a draft In Canada, I still see no need of it.
Draftee's will dog it, and not be in it for the right reasons, I would think as a Soldier of choice, you would not want someone beside you who is not in it for the right reason.
"IF" a war broke out against tyrany, such as as WW1 or WW2, you would find that there are mutitudes of inducties lined up and waiting.
You just have to look at the volunteer levels of WW1 and WW2 to see that.
But if good ol' George keeps starting wars the way he is, you may find that wave of military volunteers fighting for a cause, and that cause may be to rid the world of a tyrant whos name happens to be George Bush

Open revolt would be the result of a draft if policies are adopted that would place troops on every street corner in America as was mentioned in a thread recently...Chris wrote: But if good ol' George keeps starting wars the way he is, you may find that wave of military volunteers fighting for a cause, and that cause may be to rid the world of a tyrant whos name happens to be George Bush

If our fight was just there would be no need for a draft. If our country was truly
threatened by another nation I would be first in line at the recruiters, however the biggest threat to our nation is the wants and desires of the fat cats that dictate our foreign policy. PERIOD POINT BLANK If there was a draft California would be the first state to secede, followed by all the coastal states that are not tainted by inbreeding (of course this excludes Virgina on down, jumping over Florida and ending with Texas). Just joking

Feelings about religion: I believe in a dogma-free personal Prime Mover.
Secession would go as well in CA as it did in the south. Namely, you're not seceeding. What it would really do would be to effectively destroy the Republican party. Who in the US is going to vote for the party that ended up leading us into a near civil war?
They would lose. Massively. Like 80-20. Because one thing Americans fear is our gov't abusing it's power. Such an action would end up costing them their majority in every state.

I hate to say it but you must be right, because the government has been grossly abusing it's power for the last 6 years!!!Meggie wrote:one thing americans fear more than having too much power in the government is losing their religion, honestly i think this is how bush is still in power.

Civil liberties groups have warned that the military's expanded involvement in homeland defense could bump up against the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which restricts the use of troops in domestic law enforcement. But Pentagon authorities have told Congress they see no need to change the law. According to military lawyers here, the dispatch of ground troops would most likely be justified on the basis of the president's authority under Article 2 of the Constitution to serve as commander in chief and protect the nation. The Posse Comitatus Act exempts actions authorized by the Constitution.
So basically, whenever they want to they can claim "Constitutionality" and institute martial law.
Also,
NORTHCOM on Posse Comitatus
