Xplite or Nlite?

Post by dcyphure »

i just learned of both nlite and xplite and has been what ive been looking for over the last 4 years lol
havnt downloaded either yet but i wanted to know a few things.

so xplite is for removal of bloat AFTER xp install and nlite is BEFORE xp install where you have to make an iso n such...is that right?

do they both remove all of the same things, is either one better or should i use both?

does anyone actually notice a speed increase in games or anything?

I never used xplite, I've used nLite though w/ great results. I have xp pro running on one of my older systems, an e-machive 433 celeron w/ either 128 or 160 ram and it runs smooth & fast too. I removed a ton of stuff and also slipstreamed sp2 into it. nLite creates the iso, you just need to burn it.

Nlite is what I use.

before i'd use either one, ive been reading in each of thier forums and an aweful lot seem to have problems due to removal
so i really want to know if there is an actual difference in pc performance, i mean all those unused files arnt doing anything but sitting there so i wonder if theres like any pcmark before and after benchies or soemthingi could look at.

try it yourself and do your own benches...I don't know any performance differences, but it seems more stable to me, I've been running my custom version of XP for a long time now with no problems to the OS...also install time is shortened a bit depending on how much you remove....basically I just like all the customization you can do..

personally I use nLite....it's free, XPlite you have to buy I'm pretty sure.

also that link that izzo posted is great information, but way too much overkill on the detail....who would really delete half the files the guys says...Direct X for one thing...LOL...

basically with programs like that, if you dont know what you are doing, then don't do it.

It all depends on the system (hardware, mb, cpu, etc.) you install your nLite XP on, and what you use the system for. Like I said earlier, I have xppro on a 433 celeron with minimal ram, onboard graphics & sound, an old cheapo e-machines and all is well, smooth & fast. i removed a lot of stuff that's useles for such a system. This system of mine is basically a duplicate of my xppro install on my laptop which is my day to day computer. The lappy is a 3.02 p4 w/ ht. 512 ram, my production system When I send the laptop in for service I'll use the old emachines to get my work done.
