Need Video Card Recommendation

Post by Scott »

Guess it may be awhile before I can upgrade my entire system, so I want to look into upgrading my video card at least, for the time being.

Running on an ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe, AGP. Need a recommendation on a video card for playing BF2.

6800 GT or X800XL/XT if you don't want to totally break the bank :)

I don't have one but the Nvidia 6600GT is getting rave reviews in the video newsgroups. Most say it is the sweet spot. Goes for between $150 and $225 or so.

I have the 6600GT and it is sweet, however I am totally bottlenecked by CPU / Mobo (2500+ on Abit NF7-s).

the 6600GT is a definite to buy card if you are looking for mainstream - I can say that doom3 and hl2 looks UNREAL on that card.

For bf2 I would go with a ATI card, 800 or 850xt/xl...from what i've seen they seem play better (go figure). Also cram as much memory that your motherboard will accept. I had 1g and bumped it up another 512 and it made a big differance. :thumb:

Have you decided what to go with yet?

I've decided that I will probably wait, not spending $350-400 for a card that won't work in a new system in 4 months or so. I started putting one together on Newegg, but it's already over $2000, which is more than I really wanted to spend.

Its very possible I'll be selling 3 hardly used BFG 6800GT PCIe cards soon... just depends on when I feel like letting them go to get dual 7800's :D

I'll keep ya informed.
