how many kilobytes a second and what service do you use? the speed also has to do with the time of the day(sometimes not always,i heard this has to do with the speed of your downloads),how many people using the same service as you in your area at the time if you share bandwidth with other people in your area, how many people were downloaing off the server at the time, and what speed the server you were downloading off of.

There is no way u could d/l 69MB in 13sec (w/or w/o the proxy) unless the file is cached. If there r a lot of people going through the proxy, then disabling it can help speeds, esp if the proxy is having probs.

yea. i agree with glc, its impossible. Unless 2 things. 1. Its cached or. 2. You Stopped the d/l then resumed it right away.

It sounds like he downloaded it the first time under the proxy, then he just turned it off, and downloaded the same file again without clearin the cache. O man, I just love newbies, they always give me a good laugh :D :D :D.

Go to internet options in Internet Explorer/
connection/LAN settings/

You'll see a box "use a proxy server"
Make sure this is unchecked

Are you joking???? Did you mean CACHE, or did you purposely write CASH jokingly, cuz it sounds to stupid to be serious, so I'll assume it's a joke. And if you are serious, you think that 69megs of cache is a lot, HA? If I had that little it would be a miracle.

In Win 98 I would consider 75 megs a very small cache! Everyone has at least 69. If you didn't browsing would suck and downloading a very large file like an iso would be impossible. When you d/l something around 100 megs it stores it in the temp folder and then copies it to wherever you want to save the file. CS in 13 seconds, don't we all wish! :)

i dont see why those speeds are ridiculous, using ws_ftp and downloading off of the zdnet ftp, i got an entire game of 60 meg in 12 seconds, averaging 6 meg sec transfer.

prediction, someone is going to say, " kbs or K/bps " blah blah

actual speed.... and no i hadn't downloaded it previoulsy....

Those speeds are just not possible. We have gotten as much as 12 mbits out of ftp.zdnet.com (using a colocated machine, not via a modem!). 6 megs a second is 48 mbits. The machines at ftp.zdnet.com (3 of them, last I checked) are connected via an OC3, at 45 mbits.
