Lag and disconects!!!! HELP

Post by STV »

Hiyaz!
I am on AT&T@home cable(GI SurfBoard 3100 cable modem). I usualy get good speeds,right now I'm at 2469 dwn/538 up kbps.
But when gaming such as UnralTournament,I can play for a short time and thenstart getting lag.
When I race in Nascar3 online,I get a bad connection message about 75% through a 10% race,then get diconected.
What do ya think my problem is?
Thnx

PS: I did install (sguide_tweak_98.zip)
and really helped my speeds.
I installed the default tweak and ran it and had the same problems.I reinstalled the tweak 98.zip

BTW,I was wodering if yiou all think my ethernet adptor could have anything to do with it>

It's a(EZ Connect USB 10/100 Fast Ethernet Adaptor)
I seen some say that a pci adaptor is better.

PCI NICs can have better pings than USB adapters. I would get a PCI NIC.

I had the same problem. Bascially my toshiba modem was crap it would timeoue and lose synch a lot. Go get Netmon (http://www.nullsoft.com/free/netmon/) have it ping your gateway address and see if it times out a lot on the graph. It could always be that crappy usb adapter though so I don't know.

I like Intel. I use the 10/100 S Management NICs on my server system and clients (4 NICs total).
