Headset troubles

I purchased the Altec Lansing AHS-302 headphones/mic combo the other day to use while playing online. After plugging it into my sound card (Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2) with several different configurations at no rate of success i decided to ask for help.
Any and all suggestions are welcome, any further information i forgot can be given upon request.

Nope it's not muted. I checked sound settings and everything is atleast 2/3 to max on volume.

What is the problem, no sound? or no mic? or both?

problem is no sound or mic. i don't know if it's just not hooked up correctly or the system doesn't have detection for a microphone enabled.
