:( my first cable prob

Well i have had cable fer 2 months now and i get my first prob now.. i have adelphia powerlink , surfboard 4100 and a kingston nic. My connection suddenly just stops in the middle of gamign or whatever im doin... everythings going fine and then no data transfer. The modem lights stay on but there is no data. after about 20 sec everything is back to normal. However the game im in times out alogn with any downloads. This becomes quite annoying. I reformatted liek 10 times and called the cable company and they say their are no problems.. whats goin on???

by the way ive tryed setting and unsetting the patches .. nothign works

Well if you haven't determined the problem yet, I suggest you get a program like LiveCon to check your local gateway.

I have similar outages and have found that I get packetloss from my local gateway. Although I understand this could be a hardware problem on my end, it could also be a cable co problem.

I know someone who keeped getting disconnected in CS(Halflife Add on) I told him my connection was fine so after about a month of trying to figure out the problem he thought it might be the modem so he got a replacement modem and it fix the problem.
The modem was faultly and the only differernce is he had problems from Day one.
Me and my mate both had SB4100 modem.

Nothing new....I've had powerlink in the Buffalo area for 3 years now and everyone has been having that problem for the past few months although adelphia loves to deny it. I don't think there is much we can do on our part, but if you received the e-mail adelphia sent to its powerlink customers regarding upgrades and allocating more bandwith to users, I think it mentioned that their upgrades would cause better connectivity. The upgrades are projected to be finished in May if I remember correctly, so just sit tight. If that doesn't fix it, I am getting DSL. On another note, if you are just noticing the problem now, it could be the gateway and you may be able to fix it as RyanLaw said, but I doubt replacing the modem will work because everyone is having the same problem, in the Buffalo area at least. Judging from your screenname, I am assuming you are from the Buffalo area.

AN intresting thign ive noticed!!! this prob seems to happen alot when im in irc and i open a new irc client window and connect to a diff server! i turned my firewall off to see if it was auto blocking it but still same prob.. weridddddddd sheet!

Hey Im In Buffalo Too! Having the same problem. It only goes out maybe like 1 time every 3 hours for like 20 seconds. Downloads are fast and Pings are low. Im happy

Yeap all the lights stay on. Then just sits there sayin "Finding site" Or if Im gaming I lag till it comes back on.

I know that Adelphia has also told me that eastcoast has been slow and there aware there is a problem even though i havent felt it..in Ohio,called for diff reasons thats why I know

tsk tsk....how can you love adelphia. Its horrible. Even though the speed may be good, there are way too many users and it is nowhere near the speeds other cable systems get. It has horrible pings for gaming and the 128 upload cap is a pain. All that in addition to the 20-second outages which are really frequest today. Oh well, they will eventually fix it.

The Sabres better win tonight.

Mine dosent go out that much. My d/l speeds fly and my Pings are in the 40's. Im VERY Happy with it.

And yes dammit THOSE SABRES BETTER WIN!

I guess it depends where you are. It seems that everyone has it on my street and everyone else in east amherst and williamsville face the problem quite frequently.

Yea My friends lives 10 Min away from me and his Powerlink is terrible. Wierd!

first read the message named 'can u people help please?' in this forum. i had the same
problem. and i tryed almost everything to
make it not to lose the connection. im currently using roadrunner from AT&T and i called them for about 2weeks but they didnt have any clue. and i tryed to fix
it by myself asking people who had similar
probs but none of their advise helped. and the last thing i tryed was changing the nic. i already even tryed to connect using the usb
ports but i lost the connection more. i bought a new linksys nic (before this i had
a D-link nic) and eventually it worked.
so i recommend u to try a new nic.

Drop your firewall if it is zonealarm done to medium. On high it has a bad habit of Blocking you DHCP server if you are useing cable. When the IP goes to renew its Ip lease you will loose connection. Some computers might for about 20sec. others have to be restarted. I spent a month on trying to figure it for my son and I few friends. In the end it turned out to be the firewall causeing the problem. This might help you I know it did My son's and a few of his friends. GoodLuck! Better off you might just want to turn it off if you are not networking.

It isn't the firewall......I tried disabling it and allowing DNS to come through. It is adelphia's problem, and they acknowledge it. Oh well.

Sabri 81 on sygate add your DHCP servers Port. Under allow Extra remote ports udp in the configure ration. This will allow you to run on high. Because medium does not block ports 138 or 137. Check your logs to see what port opens for your DHCP server. Plus add DnsServerPort=53 string value under Hkey Locol Machines under the MSTCP Key. This will allow you to get all web pages. Plus sygate will still work right. GoodLuck!

well i have adelphia, and i live in hamburg ny. i have mixed emotions about the service and the speeds. i can downlaod at anything up to a sustained 850kps, i have D/U meter so i can check it. but my upload is capped at about 15-20kps. which sucks a$$$$$$$$$$$. but im dealin with it, i have low pings on all my games i can dowload movies in less than an hour. im h appy with my download, im just pissed at my upload. grrrr darn adelphia

Yes, I know your problem and I actually used to have the same. Is just paused for like 30 seconds and then nothing happened, and if i were playing a game (CS) I'd be dead by the time it un-froze.

If you re-install your modem driver in the network properties window, (delete it and put it back) then it should work well and not freeze up.

I actually reinstalled everything that had to do with my cable modem, even the IPconfig crap
