Roger,
I just went there and got 43.9 upload. Go to www.dslreports.com and try it. Go to Tools then speed test. I use the Megapath one. I normally get 80 to 125 kbps upload in the eary mornings. Download in the early mornings I get around 3500 kbps. I don't even try at night.

Hey, I did here some news bout the overland area today when I called my Digital cable TV company about them changing out the cable drop to the house and upgrading splitters.They asked what the problem was told them I was having slow connectivity for cable modem and would like to have it changed out ( what the heck its 24 years old why not) to see if it would help any. She said hold for a min. Came back said yea there is a bottleneck problem in overland and they where working on it and that they where waiting on the phone company to do somethings first. So they could finish up with new fiber optic lines. She said prolly couple weeks to have it finished.

Thanks. I went to the dslreports site and tried the upload test there. My speed looked a little more reasonable (just under 120kbps). Download speed measured pretty much the same as on thebandwidthplace.com. I'm not sure why there is such a difference in the upload measurement, but obviously I don't have a problem with my setup that is causing slow uploads.

Well maybe some good news.
I talked to Greg Briggs today(from StPeters AT&T) and he said that there are 2 DS3 lines that will be complete by Thusday(2/14/2001)

So maybe things will get better.

Course this was sapost to happen last week,so all we can do is hope.

Cant quite figure whats up with this......last night I had 120kb/sec upload, but 80-90 download......figger that out.
4-6am on Sunday I was downloading at 3.1MB/sec....never saw speed like it. Isnt that damn near T-1? What a rush. New linux kernel/distributions in no time at all.

I hope they do whatever is necessary at the headend before too many more gamers/napsterheads sign on

Not possible, as cable systems are limited to 10mbps (1.2MBps).

I think this is ridiculous. AT&T advertises @Home as being "always on". Well, until a few weeks ago, it used to disc every few minutes. Now, things are slow as hell. I live in St. Charles, and I dont know if I can stand to wait the 2 weeks for them to put in the line. "Lightning Fast"... check this one out:

My fingers are getting tired talking about this, but here goes. I have been trying to get AT&T to deal with their problems of late to no avail. I am in TX and could get DSL, but there are many of you who can't. I also use these guys for cable TV and spend approx 130.00/month with them. Their response, or lack of it, to customers is my biggest issue. Also the fact that AT&T has all those prime time commercials running for new business with the ad speed that is no longer possible with their cap. I am of the opinion they need to get it right before they get a bunch of new customers they cannot service. I have had internet with them for over a year, and at first it was great, always on and very fast. Not any more. I have had maybe 7-10 days of service in the last month. I have spent MANY hours trying to get answers with very little response. I finally got a reply email from corporate this morning that said they were sorry for my inconvenience and they were giving me a credit of $10.00! for my trouble. I replied that was not sufficient. Here are email address for corporate/ customer.care@tci.net and corp.customercare@broadband.att.com. Also, their is a customer forum on AT&T home site where customers can help each other with problems. Everyone in the room for the past couple of days has been talking about the poor service. The AT&T moderator says we should not use that room for this purpose because we may give a bad impression to new customers. Of all the nerve. I am going to continue to pressure these guys and resist the urge to go to DSL and satellite TV because it is not right that they can do this and still take our money when they have a monopoly on cable internet. I suggest everyone use every avenue they have to pressure these guys. i also encourage you to contact your local governing body that awards the cable contract to get them to pressure these guys to get it right or get a new company you can. A possible solution/kick in the a** for @home/ATT here in St. Louis.....How about a full-page ad in the Journals here letting all of our friends in the area know just how bad the service and unresponsive ATT/@Home is to it's current customers. I'm game if we can get enough of you involved. At this point it is not a matter of telling them to f@#* off.....it's about getting WHAT WAS ADVERTISED. If I serviced my customers like that I'd be mighty poor.....they deserve likewise. Send me an e-mail if you wish to get on the bus......please use inspect1121@primary.net .....I had problems getting my Netmail, too. Thanks.....

You're absolutely right, glc.....it was 1.1 mb/sec.....

Now i know there is something fishy with @ home.....check these pings, notice the drop from the 1000ms + range to the 100ms range and the back again about 10 min later. WTF is up with that?!?!?!

Maybe a solution was put in last night! If you look at my previous tracert's you can see that my 3rd - 4th hop were between these to servers:

I just now had time to look at this again. For all of you having such a hard time in IL, here is what happened yesterday. I called the city of Arlington, TX where I live to complain about the cable contractor(AT&T). THe lady at my city was concerned and said the City Council takes these complaints seriously. She put me in touch with a local rep that I could actually talk to! The local rep talked to me for awhile about all the problems. I also have begin to receive replys from corporate that have ben forwarded to the president of AT&T's office. The chat room I referred to yesterday is called Customer Forum and can be accessed from www.att.com-I have let everyone know that when my service is back on they are not through. I want to see them setup their "customer care" dept where we don't have to get upset with them every time we have a problem, and I will not be satisfied until they do so. I have also notified everyone at AT&T that I have contacted that if they do not do this my satisfaction, I will continue with my formal complaint with the city, as well as continue in all chat rooms and message boards all over the country where they have been awarded the contract to get them fired. I will also be getting petitions and consumer groups here in TX involved. It is not just getting service this time, but knowing they will handle this properly in the future. I also have complained about their cap restricting us from getting advertised speeds. I seem to have finally gotten some attention after not getting any work done at my company for 3 days! Good luck all of you and I strongly encourage each of you in every area of the country to follow some or all of these steps. Yes, it consumes some time, but we have to stand up to these guys that have a monopoly on service and this is the only way to fire them from the job and have the possibility of high speed access. I could get DSL today, but I don't know that they are any better, and many of you do not have that option. Therefore I have decided that all of us must stick together and make them do their jobs that they are paid for. Yes, I do believe in American ideals and I am willing to sacrifice for now until we make right. All for on and one for all!

Im having a little problem with my @Home (Shocker!). Im running WinME 256MB P3-650E with a linksys LNE100 v4.0 NIC and a SURFboard 3100. When downloading a file my kB/s go nuts. It goes up to 90 for a second then down to 0.0 then 23kB/s then 0.0 for a second then shoots up to 124kB/s then back to 0.0. I cant even D/L @Home 2.0 not that i would want it! i just needed a test....really! Anyway when this goes on ping to www does the same thing it will go from <10 to 96! then back down to then and up again. and i cant access www though my browser at times as well. Any ideas? Ive been on the phone with crap support a couple times now and they of course know nothing of what they are talking about. Also id like to know how to get some leverage and maybe get them to lift my cap, even just a little. Thanks for any help or suggestions

What are your thoughts on the announcement by AT&T that they will sell their cable customers in St. Louis to Charter Communications? Charter was probably the first cable company in St. Louis to begin offering Internet service, but I don't know if things will be any better for @home customers after the change of ownership. I wonder where Charter's connection to the Internet backbone is? Hopefully we don't have another bottleneck situation when changed over to Charter. http://biz.yahoo.com/apf/010228/charter_at_t.html

I was curious how many different brand of cable modems @home uses in the St. Louis area. I'm served out of the St. Peters office and I was given a COM21 DOXport 111. It seems to work well, but I have no idea how it compares with some of the other modems out there. Does @home offer another model that tends to work better than others? Does AT&T have a list of which modems are compatible with their system if I would decide to buy my own?

HI. I live in Columbia, MO and have AT&T @home. They gave us a Surfboard 3100 model and it works great! I would see if you can get that model. Except for a few problems in January, the service has been rock solid since I signed up last September. I feel bad for all the St. Louis problems.
