Start calling, call every 3-7 days until they fix it!

I would call everyday. F-that, youre not paying for those kind of pings. Your connection might as well be non-existent.

here's the deal. it's state college, pa. they JUST FINISHED UPGRADING. peopel were offline 75% of the day due to overcrowding of the router in town. well, now it's stable, so i guess all is done and good. they refunded everyone's october bill, and all is well now , supposedly. everyone already complained and yelled and now they're back online, yet 75% of peopel using @home in the area use it to surf and chat, of which i can do with relative ease (minus the surfing and chatting heh).

gateway pings are never less than 180ms where just a few miles away on the other router in town, they are 14ms and below.

calling won't help!! they just finished upgrading. people aren't being kicked off anymore. that's all they fixed and will fix. it's lame i tell you.

here ya go. gateway.

Call your local AT&T cable provider, then get patched through and get the name of your local supervisor of technical services for the @Home service. I did that 1 1/2 years ago, and it has paid great rewards. Just takes a little digging and patience. Good luck.

nope he's gotta deal with us -- local's refer them back -- he's with my ATT@home -- the problem is state college still isn't done yet but they are trying to redo the whole server system due to "over saturation" they only guarantee speed for "normal use" which gaming is not considered to be a part of which is why the upload is capped at 128 -- and there is not much local or we can do as far as uncapping that -- if you test out the minimum signal strength there's not much that can be done - all I can tell you is there are techs that will roll a truck to check signal even some of us "far away" customer service level one's -- there are no level one's at the local level it's all call centers now -- so my question for you is have they sent a tech out to test your signal at the tap (your house) and at the node? If not -- call till you get somebody who will - if you can't email me me and I'll see what I can do -- PA and TX are going thru the same stuff and they are working on it -- fast enough? no but they are -- what nobody usually will tell you is on paper what the system was supposed to be able to carry wasn't even close to what the servers could do -- this is still new stuff and it's trial and error in some areas. In fact in some places they aren't allowing anymore new installs until they fix the speed and connection issues that the current subs have...and remember -- those of us level ones that actually like our jobs get just as frustrated at not being able to help you as you do with not getting help -- we're the ones that go that extra step to at least get you the right info and credit you so at least you get free sucky service as opposed to 39.95 a month sucky service -- psy

Well in october i thought the problem was only me, until i called up a bunch of friends and found out all of state college is having difficulty. they rolled a truck and my signal strengths were smack dab in the middle of acceptable ranges. new development, all new wiring etc etc put in less than 5 years ago.

During october, all @home commercials stopped running in the area. now, after nov 6th, their so called "upgrade", commercials started running in the area for "blazing speed" and "connected all the time" etc etc.

my pings are well over 1100 now and i can't do ANYTHING. i can barely surf the net. i timeout trying to post messages and even chat online.

i'm not bashing level 1 or 2 or @home's tech support at all. i've always been able to call and have things done in under 30 mins. usually it's really good. it's the service promised and services rendered which is getting me hot. they said "all would be upgraded and things would be fine by nov 1st"...then "the 6th"....then "the 9th"....now it's the 21st and nothing is working. 1100 pings to servers?? hmmm grrrrr roar.

is there anything happening to fix the problem though?? I mean in the immediate future (30 days??) cuz i really would just like to sit and websurf without timeouts.

thanks tho.

okay on the bright side i was told another ten days to two weeks till they resolve the problems in pa -- i know you weren't bashing and if you were considering some of the stuff i've heard techs say to subs i really can't say i blame you -- are you getting free service right now? cuz if you're not you should be -- i just wanted to make sure you knew some of us do care even if we're not local and we do credit our subs cuz like i always say - sucky free service is better than sucky 39.95 service -- sounds like they checked your signal at the tap but the problem is usually at the node which takes either a very stubborn tech or an order from the head office -- a "remedy ticket" has to be sent to TASC demanding that the speed/connection issue be investigated -- it's a pain but i do them all the time -- if you can't get someone to do it -- email me and i'll send in the request for you -- i'm off till saturday but it is possible to have the signal checked and to move you off of a node if it is overloaded to the point to cause you connectivity problems -- will they really fix it within the two weeks? i think so cuz they are losing subscribers -- they never tracked where and when the voluntary disco's came from but now they do which tells you that they are paying attention and trying to fix it -- hope i gave you the answers you wanted -- would rather tell you the truth than what i thought you wanted to hear -- psy

Thanks a bunch psy.

Just looking for answers. The node, as far as i was told, has 80 or so people on it, it's the UBR2 (i think??) router which is on the fritz cuz of congestion. tho i'm no techie, i don't know this for sure...however from what i've seen, downtown is a waste of time, outskirts are pretty much fine.

no, things are NOT free. they're still charging our 39.95 fee/month + taxes and ip's. I think i'm being charged for an IP i cancelled btw, computer -b should be cancelled but i think i've been billed for it. I called to cancel it, and they said they did, but i dont think they stopped billing me. hmm anyway....39.95 is NOT the current price anyway, it comes out to $42 or something after taxes, then with IP's more, but it's nowhere near free.

thanks for the info, i hope all gets fixed. the cap is NOT in place yet, i'm still uploading at 90kB/s, when the system works at 3am. i'll be looking and watching for the downtime while they fix whatever is needed to be fixed.

Thanks again.
