what type of cable service (speed) do you have?

Post by Garrett67 »

I am currently running a basic cable modem service(I guess) that achieves around 300-500 kbps on various speed tests. Download speeds (files) are around 45-65KB/s, so that is about 300-480kbps or so......
I know I can upgrade to 768kbps for an addition $30 I believe. I can also get dedicated cable but I am sure that is VERY expensive.
I see people posting here that have amazing speeds and I don't know if you guys are using cable modems or something faster like T-1's or 2's...etc......

so, what are you using and if you are getting speeds that I have seen posted (like 2000kbps+ ) how are you getting that and what service do you have. What do you pay?

I have tried several patches and I do see some improvement but Idont' get over 500kbps at any time.

Thanks

I have Roadrunner High Speed Online in Ks. I'm paying $30 a month for 3000 Mbps/768, but I get 70 to 99 times faster, because there's no one in my neighborhood with a computer, except me :)

I played around in the registry alot, and tried the manual tweaks here(they worked for me!) Now, I'm getting 4.1-5 Mbps down/500-730 Kbps up(no matter what kind of day it is).

I'm paying $30 for the service, $16 for leasing the cable modem, $13 for internet taxes. All come together to $60, and real worth it, too.

Hey Garrett, have you tried any of the speed patches here on speedguide? I know they help out a lot of people regarding their speeds...
As far as what I've got - Comcast@Home Indianapolis...I normally get between 2MBit - 3Mbit down and 1Mbit up. My cost? $0.00 :D

When they installed my Cable service it was 512/128 and it cost $45 a month. But a month ago the speed went up drastically, highest I've gotten so far was ~2900/~900. I have Comcast@Home.

Buckeye Express

$40/month (including modem rental)

1.5Mb/sec down 128kb/sec up

I get great pings, and usually i can reach my cap on downloads during peak times. My upload always reaches my cap of 15KB/sec

SB4100 modem

They say they will be upgrading in the future. So it will only get better for me.

I pay 30 dollars a month for 768kbps download and low upload. It's capped. I use Charter Pipeline in St. Louis, and of course, being in a large city, cable traffic is huge. I average 40-70 KB/s downloading. :(
