P. Diddy Rims

Post by BaLa »

You can now get your VERY own P. Diddy Rims.
They will set you back between $700 to $3000 each

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - At 35, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs has already made his mark as a hip-hop musician, Broadway actor, marathon runner, fashion designer, celebrity boyfriend, gossip column favorite, voter registration booster and all-around entertainment entrepreneur.

Now, the former Puff Daddy (news - web sites) is going into the auto parts business — and it's all about the wheels.

Combs is joining forces with a Kansas City manufacturer to produce a new line of custom, precision-forged aluminum rims for sports trucks, luxury SUVs and high-end American- and German-made automobiles.

The 50-50 joint venture between Combs' Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group and Kansas City's Weld Wheel Industries Inc. was announced Thursday at the New York International Auto Show. SJC Wheels LLC will produce and sell "Sean John Wheels," named for the entertainer. They hit stores next month, retailing at between $700 and $3,000 each.

"Wheels have become a fashion statement — a badge of taste and style," Combs said. "We see an opportunity to bring excitement to the wheel category by delivering the Sean John sophisticated design with the best quality production."

Partner Greg Weld, the founding president and chief executive of Weld Wheel, said Combs had told him he'd show him how to "bring some sexy" to the wheel business.

Weld, a 61-year-old former auto racing driver who started his wheel manufacturing business in 1970, was a little overwhelmed at the attention attracted by his new partner, marveling at his ability to work a crowd and "build his brand."

"He is an icon in the urban market and the urban market is huge, the single biggest segment of wheel business," Weld said. "But we did not know how to tap into that market. Having a personality or high-profile person is a little like Nike getting together with Michael Jordan. It increases recognition."

"In the urban market, they call it 'bling-bling' which means showy, shiny and 'Look at me, I have a lot of bling,'" he said. "The way we've designed spokes, holes, the features, it looks like it is aggressively moving when it's not even moving."

nice, but not unique at all. I would expect something more striking.

It means that the wheels look silly and offer no beneficial value for it's high price, except for sheer looks (rice). Is rice appealing to you?

Hi BaLa

Weld Wheels have been around for years and it no doubt was a smart Business move for them to get into todays Market of Excess. As to the Wheels themselves, they will sell on name alone.

Check out the Excess of the "Stones Series" by Asanti. You can have up to 65,000 Carats at up to $250,000.

Unfortunately not a great picture of them in all their Gaudiness.

imho most of these items along with all the Bikes being built by these TV Shows are simply excessive and imho ridiculous.

A bunch of overpaid Stars (so called) trying to outgun each other.

I watched a 300 Series Rear tired Chopper being ridden after its build and simply laughed my Ass off. The rider was bounced up and down from start to finish. You couldn't ride one of these dumb things for 100 miles without needing back surgery.

a 'normal' person could not afford $3k rims.

that's $12k just for rims
and even $700 is a bit excessive

you'll also have to get the tires to go with it.

And don't forget the extra $1200 for the sean john outfit you'll have to wear to match those rims ;)

I pretty much have to agree with you minir.
Attaching celebrity names to products is hardly a new idea. I seriously doubt that Mr. Combs understands wheel design, save that he can select what appeals to him (which is probably the same for his clothing line). Not to pique P. Diddy, I am certain that the famous ladies who lend their mugs and monikers to perfumes have equal input to their creation.

As for looks, I prefer the George Foreman grill.

Hi nepenthe

As you suggest David its doubtful there was too much input by P. Diddley, other than "Gee those are shiny and where's my money?"

It reminds me of the Mike Tyson interview of years gone by when he and Robin Givens were sitting in his new mansion and the decor was all White on White and Tyson was saying how he'd decorated it all himself. :rotfl:

Excess sells it seems and people want a piece of Stardom in whatever form they can get it, or so it seems.
