Optimumonline Modems
I am going to be getting OOL soon and I know that when I go to the wiz to pick everything up there is going to be a selection of modems. Does anyone know which ones there are and which ones may be better than the others???
Windows has not yet detected a keyboard. Press any key to continue.

They are all pretty similar.
You might want to pick the one that "looks best" to you or has the best warrantee.
As long as you use an ethernet connection and not the usb port, you should get about the same from each of the modems.
Personally, I vote for the terajet, but that's just because I have it and am extremely happy with it.

Actually, there are more. There is the TeraJet, 2 Motorola's (the SB3100 & SB4100), and 2 3Com modems (the CMX and Sharkfin). I would recommend the Motorola SB4100. Speedwise, they all perform very similar. I like the status page the SB4100 has which lets you check some of the stats for the modem health and I thought the Standby switch was a nice idea (although I have never used it).

I asked this question here a while ago. Most people said go with the Terajet by Terayon. Something about it having better firmware and better through put.
I have no problem getting 6 MEGABIT/second downloads. The Terajet fly's.
I used the speed2k patch at www.speedcorp.com and the speedguide speed patch and noticed a HUGE difference.
I have heard 3-Comm's modem bad mouthed here somewhat and my dad has OOL with the Surfboard and doesnt get the speed I get, but who knows its anyones guess.
I'd get the Terajet though!

I had the 3com CMX originally at it went bad after 3 months and I got the terajet.
Most people do say the all perform the same and I somewhat agree.
But, I'm trying to put together a case for the terajet being the fastest. I have talked to 3 people who get consistant 8Mbps speed from fast sites and all 3 have the terajet. I haven't see anyone without the terajet get that speed, but I do admit it's a tiny sampling.
