Ok, I got 2 cats Cleo: and Caesar: I know we need to get Cleo fixed, she’s always whining and stuff, but she’s always using every thing as a scratching post, how do I fix that? And my older cat Caesar is spraying every where how do I fix that? Any advice would be great. My mom wants to get rid of them because of what they are doing so I want to do my best to try to keep them. Thanks. Whitewulf
for the scratching problem. all cats want to sharpen their claws through scratching. you need to give them something to do this on, a scratching post or something. spray or sprinkle it with catnip on occasions to make it inviting to them. then spray your furniture or other things they currently use as scratching post with a cat repellent. they'll get the message.
as for the spraying, just give the kitty a hard kick in the ribs when you catch it spraying, or even if you didn't catch it spraying but just feel like taking your agressions out on something small and defenceless. hard enough to make it fly across the room and smash against the opposing wall. it'll get the message.

Castration does not always prevent spraying. If it is done a little too late, they will still spray. Hard to correct. You might ask a vet if there are any ways to discourage beyond the old water bottle trick.
If a male cat still sprays after he's been fixed its usually impossible to get him to stop (even with all the tricks people are mentioning). Its unfortunately one of those habits that they dont know how to stop, instinct type thing. You should have them de-clawed if they are going to be housecats, then they can claw on whatever they want. Mine are both de-clawed and couldnt be happier.
declawing is mean! i got my cats this little cardboard thing that comes with catnip for like 5 bucks, they scratch the crap out of it and dont scratch anything else.
as for the spraying if he does it just in one place try putting a small can (like a cat food can) filled with coffee grounds in that spot, cats hate the smell and will normally stay away from that spot.

Buy her this and it will fix all problems with Scratching tis what i did and it worked like a charm
I was an evil bastard and got my cat's declawed. And in reality it accomplished little to nothing as they still tear the **** out of everything even with no front claw. All I accomplished was getting Meg to yell at me.
As for the spraying I dunno. I had my cats fixed when they were little. Although they still do on occassion pee in places other than their litter box.

They hate the taste and will in time associate it with their activity.
