Need help with hardware upgrades

Post by Paindriver »

My current system specs are in my sig.

I was thinking of just adding more RAM to my current system (make it 1gig).
But i decided to upgrade more..

BUDGET: $400.00

I am thinking of buying:

Motherboard: ??
Processor: ??
RAM (1gig): ??
DVD Burner: ?? (only if i can keep the price of the other three within budget)

This system will primarily be used for gaming.....currently playing World of Warcraft. If you have any suggestions please post them.

T.I.A.

I'd get the ram and a dvd burner. You have a 6800 plain jane or a GT or what?

I would leave the cpu and mobo alone, save the money for a new cpu/mobo/ram/graphics card upgrade.

You have 64bit amds, 64bit intels, the dothan intels, pci express graphics cards, ddr2, mobos supporting NCQ, 4 raided HDDs, and it offers u a good upgrade path.

yes, I have a VGA 6800 128mb video card.
I really plan on getting 1gig memory.
I was actually considering buying an ATI 9800 Pro for $140.00 (employee purchase price) but i dunno....

More RAM, faster HD (Raptor), and overclock your CPU.

Just wanted to get a few more opinions before i put the order in through Newegg....

Here is what i am looking to order:

-Crucial 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 8T - OEM $69.33 x2
Model#: CT6464Z40B.8T

-Lite-On 16X, DVD Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive, Model SOHW-1673S Black, Retail. $66.99

Write Speed: 16X DVD+R, 8X DVD+RW, 16X DVD-R, 6X DVD-RW, 4X DVD DL, 48X CD-R, 24X CD-RW
Read Speed: 48X CD-ROM, 16X DVD-ROM
Interface: ATAPI / E-IDE
Buffer: 2MB
Features: SMART-BURN, SMART-X, VAS system.DVD+R9 4X(Double Layer Support)

I don't know much about DVD Burners so let me know if this is a decent one to buy. Overall on a dvd burner i don't want to spend more then $150.00, i was also really thinking of an external dvd burner but i don't know yet.

The latest Plextor drive appears to be your best bet.
I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.

I'd seriously look into getting a Raptor and another 512MB stick...It'd prove better performance than just 1.5GB RAM..
