My cable modem was installed in the living room but i was wondering if i can relocate the cable modem to my room and use the cable that was connected to my tv and connect it to my modem? My friend did this and his connection seems alot slower?

Well, the nice clear answer is maybe, it depends.

If the location you wish to use was previously used for a set-top box, the odds are pretty good. If it was not, then there is a possibility that there is a filter that would block the upstream.

Try it and see what the signal levels are.

Call your cable company and have them relocate your modem line. This will ensure you that you are getting the right amount of signal. Might cost you a few dollars for them to come out but in the long run you will have less problems. :)

The most direct run from your input is optimal providing it is not filtered as stated. If you have good company installed cable lines with good connectors, then you can re-locate the modem anywhere providing it is a solid, non-filtered connection. Try not to run it off a multiple splitter if possible. Our downstream modem frequency is at 555.00 Mhz which is affected by cable length at a much higher loss than low analog frequency tv channels.
