Possible to change adapter (WEP --> WPA) ?

Post by heat sink »

I have an IBM laptop with a Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 network adapter, but it seems the only encryption available on it is WEP (my Linksys wireless router can use WPA.)

Is it possible to re-jigger the adpater in some way so that it can use WPA encryption? Say, by downloading a new driver or other software? I'm not sure how these things work.

t h a n k s

Yes, it is possible

Upon doing some more research I discovered it is possible to update the adapter to include WPA encryption.

I just checked my laptop and the IBM site and realized my Access Connections (program used to handle the different wireless connection profiles) was out of date. There is a download available on the IBM site here for the Thinkpad (Win 2k).

This updated IBM Access Connections and also the drivers for the Intel wireless adapter. Thusly, WPA encryption is now available on my machine-router connection.
