Deep Fryer

Post by waferdog »

So I got a new deep fryer for Christmas. I already made wicked good homemade french fries in the thing, now I need ideas about what to fry next. Any ideas?

Thanks for the responses. I was going to try some walleye fillets with some shore lunch breading, but the lack of walleye fillets has that on hold.

Cheese balls sound great. Has anyone bought the curds and breaded them yourself?

I was going to try deep-fried chicken heads but then decided that would be bad.

Does anyone have a good recipe for a general breading (for chicken or fish)?
How about a rising breading (corn dogs and such)?

Fried chicken wings, then make the hot sauce with 1/2 Pete's RedHot and 1/2 butter. YUM YUM. Super bad for ya, but oh-so tasty.

Dunno. Never done it. Here's a recipe:

http://www.absoluterecipes.com/desserts ... cream.html

Fried Ice Cream

1 scoop vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup frosted flakes
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
vegetable oil for frying

Heat the Vegetable Oil in a large pot. While the oil is heating, take the Frosted Flakes and put them into a Ziploc bag. Smash them until they are pea-size pieces. Pour the Frosted Flakes into a large bowl. Take the scoop of Ice Cream and drop it into the bowl. Roll the Ice Cream around in the cereal until it is well coated. Take the cereal covered Ice Cream ball and drop it into the hot oil for 30-45 sec. Take the Ice Cream out of the Oil and dust with Cinnamon and Powdered Sugar. Serve immediately

Wow! Cool. Sounds like fun. BTW: I got the recipe via Google. The Net is the best recipe book on the planet.

Definetly on the wings! 1/2 real butter and 1/2 of a real good hot sauce. Bread the wings with flour and then fry. Pull out and then put the wings into a pan with the warmed butter and sauce.

Lick fingers generously!

doughnuts/doughnut holes

also i tried these and they were REALLY good, courtesy of Emeril:
Banana Beignets

2 large eggs
1 ripe banana cut into 1/2" pieces
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Vegetable oil for deep frying
1/2 cup confectioners' (powdered) sugar

1. whisk the eggs in a large bowl. add the banana, flour, milk, sugar, baking powder, and salt, and whisk well to make a smooth batter.

2. pour enough oil to come halfway up the sides into a large deep pot or electric deep fryer and heat over high heat to 360 degrees.

3. in batches, without crowding, drop heaping tablespoons of the batter into the hot oil and fry, turning them to brown evenly, about 2 minutes. using a slotted spoon, tansfer to paper towels to drain.

4. sift the confectioners' sugar through a sieve onto the beignets and serve warm.

I like to put out a bowl with warm melted chocolate sauce (search on google for an easy one). Then i grab a beignet, cover it in powdered sugar, and either roll it or dip it in the chocolate bowl and then eat....YUM!!!!!!!

works great for parties too
