Wanna try linux?!

Post by One Sick Tzim »

Ever want to give Linux a try but afraid to actually install it on your hard drive and risk altering the file system from FAT32 or NTFS into something unrecognizable? (Been there, done that). Then I HIGHLY recommend DS Linux! I am running it on the Dell listed in my .sig and it is great! Basically you download an iso image that's under 50 MB - takes about 1/2 hour or so, then burn the image to disk - I recommend to a business card disk. Pop it into your bootable-from-CD PC and let her rip!
If anyone is interested, as I learn more about this I'll post more on the subject. Right now I know that the graphics and color are far superior to WindowsXP, it auto-detected my LAN and subsequent DSL connection and comes equiped with Mozilla Firefox among other programs! Try it, you might like it!
If you like it enough, donate something to the DS Linux project!

Personally I have tried DS Linux and it works great. Gonna find one of the larger LiveCDs and I can review it and post my thoughts?

Even in the bathroom.

I am using Knoppix now. I like DS Linux for the web browser (it uses Firefox over Mozilla and I am partial to Firefox) but aside from that - Knoppix is HUGE. Better make sure your DSL is tweaked before you download it. :)

I also am trying a rescue Linux LiveCD at the moment with partitioning tools, etc on it. Should get a chance to try it tomorow at a friend's house - he has an old system whose hard drive is corrupt and virus laden, so we're gonna see what we can do with a LiveCD to fix it.

Will post results.
