new cable modem slow!!

Post by lithiumwolf7 »

about 3 days ago my old cable modem died (or so i believe) i went out and bought an $80 d-link modem to replace the dead RCA one. I called up comcast and gave them the needed info. After a day my internet connection started working, but to my dissmay its about 35 times slower then it used to be!!! (this page took about 40 sec to load) ...maybe the speed will pick up with time as my modem propagates through the network?? after all its the first day. Any help or info would be appreciated...

Are you behind a router? Try unpluging the modem for a few minutes then power it up again. Could just be a provisioning problem.

Have you checked latency? Make sure you arent losing packets or terribly high ping times. New modems are defective sometimes, ive ran into several right outta the box that have done weird stuff like that. Do you know what kind of network adapter you have in the computer?
