Anyone wants tortoises ?

Post by Rivas »

Im talking about 2 Sulcata Tortoises, there are relatively small atm (6 and 7 inches).
Looking for person who does have large backyard ....you cant keep them in small house or appartment (i did that mistake). Its 3rd largest tortoise in the world,it will grow up in 15 years in its full size.

"Although sulcata hatchlings are cute and tiny and will easily fit in the palm of your hand, they will grow up and grow big -- in fact, sulcata are the third largest species of tortoises in the world. Only Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises get bigger!

According to sulcata keepers who we've talked with, you can expect an adult sulcata to reach at least 18 inches (45 cm) in shell length, and 70 to 100 pounds (30 to 45 kg) in weight. And if your tortoise turns out to be the chelonian equivalent of Shaquille O'Neal, it might reach 24 to 30 inches (60 to 76 cm) in shell length, and around 150 lbs. (68 kg) in weight!"

If you are interested send me PM PLEASE.

Thus, if you live somewhere that has cold, snowy winters, you must be able to provide large, secure indoor quarters (along with appropriate heat and UVB light) for your sulcata tortoise.

:( iowa has cold snowy winters. i have a basement but can't guarantee appropriate heat and UVB light.
You need to provide your tortoise with daytime temperatures between approximately 75 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit (23 to 29 degrees Celsius). Always make sure that your tortoise has access to cooler areas or shade so that it can cool down when necessary. Nighttime temperatures should be lower than the daytime temperatures, but should not be allowed to drop below 60 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius).
yeah, can't do that. sorry, they sound cool but can't help ya. :( good luck finding a home

can't you take the money as a last resort and then just donate it to some place that helps tortoises?

Did you email sulcata-station and ask them if they know someone looking for one? Thats a shame they sell those things in areas where they really shouldnt be. Im not saying its your fault but the greedy people who supply them.

Not that you shouldn't try and find a home for them, but try a search for "sulcata rescue". If your in Canada, tack on Canada and see if anything is near you.

they are not gonna give you money
you propably didnt see adult sulcata ...they are tanks ...adult sulcata can tear down your doors with no problem.
you know whats happening with all the reptiles in refugee houses ? they will get injection after awhile because its very expansive to keep them alive + there is no space for them. :(
