It took me a while, but I finally found a program that'll let me do this.
using ulead photo explorer, you can put as many pictures that fit onto your scanner. It will then auto crop and seperate multiple images into different files. It doesnt do a PERFECT job, but I was rather impressed how close it came.

I had wanted to purchase a scanner that will automate the task, running a stack of photo's through.
however, the only one Ive found gets HORRIBLE reviews. This does the job with a little more work and I didnt have to spend >$250 on a new scanner

how'd it work out?
not the most stable software, but it's the only thing i've found that'll properly perform this function.

What scanner were you looking at? I have a Mustek 1200LP that allows multipule scans and I purchased that 5 years ago for around a $100 new.

I wanted to have an automated scanner that would allow me to scan >20 pictures in one setup. in other words, a reliable feeder system.
sid, I'll confirm exactly where the control is for the auto chopping. It does it automatically, without ever really giving you the full scan, just multiple images.
