Torrents are caning my memory

Post by efilflah »

Hi all,
I'm having a little issue with my comp here.

I only have 512mb Samsung 3200+ ram which isn't the best but I'm thinking my problem stems from other areas (like maybe my xp settings).

I started a torrent d/l yesterday night on my 512/256 dsl connection (which is already tweaked with cablenut) and it was moving at around 30k down 25k up.

I checked tonight and its 90% done and has slowed a bit but thats fine. My main concern comes from my task manager reports.

Checking the processes I have 30 running but the ram doesn't even equate to the amount that is being used.

Processes add up to about 45mb in total but checking the performance tab I am seeing the following:

Totals:
handles 5655
threads 303
processes 29

Physical Memory(K):
Total 523828
Available 41308 (and it keeps dropping)
System Cache 386900

Commit Charge(K):
Total 240136
Limit 1542364
Peak 596988

Kernel Memory(K):
Total 62944 (dropping rapidly also)
Paged 45976
Nonpaged 16552 (increasing)

My memory is rapidly dropping luckily I have a program that frees up ram when I tell it to but I have to keep doing it because the available physical memory keeps dropping.

I have no spyware or viruses I scan regularly using a multitude of programs....I am worried that once it hits 0 something bad is gonna happen.

anyone got any ideas?
