How to Buy more licenses from Microsoft
How to Buy more licenses from Microsoft
Well, I just bought Windows XP Prof. yesterday and I want to install it on all 3 of the computers that I own. Since microsoft is filled w/ greedy bastards, i need to buy 2 additional licenses to activate the other 2 computers WHICH I OWN. How do i go about purchasing 2 additional licenses and how much will they cost? Thank you for your help . . . I miss the days when you could install windows on every computer you own without any hassle. . .

You may own the computer, but you still need to purchase an operating system for each computer. If you own 3x computers, you'll need 3x operating systems, 3x antivirus products, etc etc.fubarman wrote: Since microsoft is filled w/ greedy bastards, i need to buy 2 additional licenses to activate the other 2 computers WHICH I OWN.

That is 100% bull, with more and more people owning more computers, is the assumption that everyone can afford to spend $300 on an operating system that will be out of date in a few years? I, a college student, cannot afford such a price. And because I cannot afford it, i can't take part in the added benefits of having this OS, thus limiting the access i have. I consider this discrimination. Some might say i'm full of it but how can u justify spending almost $300 for 5 sets of letters and numbers, on a computer that you already own?!?!?!YeOldeStonecat wrote:You may own the computer, but you still need to purchase an operating system for each computer. There should be someplace to get it cheaper.

You kidding?fubarman wrote:I actually did check my college store and it is 299 for WIN XP . . . there was no difference in price as compared to bestbuy, and that's why i went there . . .
The college I work at sells it for 10 bucks to students and staff. Thats Win XP Pro.
I cant believe you cant get a better price than that from your school
Edit: Make sure you actually ASK them for the student version of Win XP Pro and don't just go in the store and look on the shelf. Sure on the shelf it will be $299 but they have the student cds behind the counter locked up somewhere usually.

It's not bull at all...and once again...it's completely irrelevant to if you own a computer or not. You can own a whole warehouse full of computers....that does not give you the right to pirate an operating system, or pirate any software for that matter.fubarman wrote:That is 100% bull, with more and more people owning more computers, is the assumption that everyone can afford to spend $300 on an operating system that will be out of date in a few years? And as several here have chimed in....college students get tremendous breaks in the costs of software. If they don't, you can still get fantastic price breaks in purchasing OEM installs of WinXPp, from venders that sell those packages with basic hardware kits. You can pickup WinXPp upgrade OEM for about 95 bucks.
