hi gang, codec problem?????

hi, can anyone tell me how to play a file i have downloaded ,it is a fourcc mp42 windows media or divx player wont play it ,hope you can help bye for now and thanks in advance xx x x x x x x

Try downloading ffdshow.

Hey Sid, try a program called Gspot. It tells you what format and codecs you would need to play that file by analizing it. I don't remember were I got it though. Just search for it on the net.

Thanks, but I'm not the one that needs it. I have no trouble playing any vid file at all. Was just trying to be helpful and suggest some places they could look for the codecs they need.

My mistake I ment to write the message to nicola, I had srolled down to get nicola's name but speedguide showes the last post 1st instead of the 1st post 1st when repying to a thread.

i just dont seem to be able to do it. been on codec sites downloaded some but dont know what to do then i have tried to play my file but just hear the sound ,no picture ,,,,there must be something i can do that is easy,?

i even d/l a codec identifier but i dont know were it is ,i have searched ,i will have to down load another, can anyone tell me once i download a codec what do i do with it, all help will be gladly recieved,,, thanks x x x x x x

Are you using WMP 9? If so go here and get the media pack.
