MP3 player

My gf wants an MP3 player, I have no idea about them any sugestions would be appreciated. Can spend up to $150 or so. She wants it for light workouts at the Y.

One more question, can an ipod play regular mp3s or are they proprietary(sp)?

ive got a dell dj but its over her limit my only complaint on it is that i have t ouse musicmatch to design the playlist.

Rio Nitrus. You can get them for 130$ at CompUSA. They're tiny, and have 1.5 GB of storage! A new pair of headphones would be a good idea, although the ones included with the player are pretty decent.
The Ipod can play MP3's, but you may as well use Apple's AAC format, as it sounds better and takes up slightly less space. Itunes is, in my opinion, the best MP3 software available. The trippy "visualizer" is also pretty cool.

there are quite a few very nice ones, including the IPOD.
But they are all over $150
if she's using it for light workouts and stuff, it wont matter that much...

but this seems to be a great buy a 40gig mp3 player

dunno if any of these are good or not, as I do not have an mp3 player

The Creative hard-drive based players mentioned above VERY nice. Creative, a subsidiary of the legendary Cambridge SoundWorks, makes excellent Mp3 players. The smaller model, which is actually 4GB, is just as good as an Ipod mini, but much, much smaller.
However, as with all hard-disk based players, the disks may or may not skip while agitated; I.E. running or doing aerobics. Although smaller disks, such as that in the microdrive built into the MuVo2, should not have much trouble with this, larger hard drives like that in the 40GB model might have a few problems. The ipod is, from what I have heard, great on that account, but at nearly twice the cost for a low-end model they are not nearly as good a deal.

They shouldn't jump at all... they have a memory buffer for such reasons. Enought space to store a few songs usually.

Although probably out of your price range, I would definately still recommend the Creative Zen series mp3 players. Compared will applecraps ipods, you get more space and better hardware for less $$s.
