new comp problems

Post by GSXR1000 »

Im helping my friend build a new comp. We ordered everything from newegg...got it put it together and started loading windows. After a couple tries of getting errors we hear a pop and the comp shuts down. The power supply that came with the Aspire X-Dreamer II lasted about 15 minutes. I had an extra antec so i hooked it up and everything powered up but nothing on the monitor. I started swapping everything with my comp and everything worked fine till i got to the proc. 2500 barton. Same thing in mine..nothing on the monitor. I put my mobile 2500 in his motherboard and it worked but comp would shut down while i was trying to load windows again. I call newegg and they rma'd the MB and proc. I out my proc back in my system and it shuts down about 4 secs after i turn it on. Is it that possible his MB hurt my proc?? Can i get mine replaced or do i have to fork out the money for a new one? sorry this is so long..just wanted to give enough details so someone could maybe help. thanks

Yes, it's possible your CPU could be damaged also. When you swapped them did you apply new thermal past each time you installed it in a motherboard? Did you take precautions to prevent ESD damage?
I don't know the same things you don't know.

i always take the right precautions when installing any hardware. I can now get it to load to windows but it will still shutdown once in a while. IF i try to change anything in the bios it shuts off.

I'd try clearing the cmos with the jumper. Then let it detect everything again on the next boot.

ive tried that dude several times. Itll load into windows at 600 mhz. As soon as i go into the bios to change anything itll shut off and i have to clear them again before i can get into windows again.

Don't know what to tell you. After you clear the cmos see if you can load failsafe defaults. Reboot and see if it will run like that. Sounds like something is damaged, possibly the motherboard.

Hows the cpu temp? Try reseating it and looking for bent Pins?
