Question about NOD32
Question about NOD32
Everytime it updates, does it always come up with a "ok" box after the update is installed?

Pretty sure I did not. I'll have to check on Monday. I did set it to schedule an update at noon today but forgot to watch it.
BTW, this occured after the first install. It immediately updated on it's own.CableDude wrote:Everytime it updates, does it always come up with a "ok" box after the update is installed?

I'm lovin it...started using it on quite a few smaller clients.mmione wrote:As good as people think NOD32 is.. it's notThere is a file on a site with 610 viruses/trojans. All virus review sites are different...I do like Virusbulletin..., and NOD32 has the highest and longest running score of all over there.
Also including trojans in the test...that leave an awefully lot wide open to interpretation...as one AV company may call a lot of spyware trojans where another simply considers them mild spyware or adware, and ignores them...leaving them to the petty ad/spyware removal programs. There are trojans..and there are honest to goodness real trojans.
I also find NOD very mild on the system performance hit. I'm reading Extendia...the full dual engine one...brings systems down to their knees since it's running 2x scan engines.

That doesn't make sense though.."a file"....meaning a single file? I don't see how that can be possible, unless it's someones infected hard drive zipped up into a single compressed file or something.mmione wrote:There is a file on a site with 610 viruses/trojans. Yeah it's default setting it to check hourly I believe. No manual intervention required to have to manually keep up on the updates or check to see if updates are out. By the time they are, it's already downloaded them.CableDude wrote: BTW, this occured after the first install. It immediately updated on it's own.

OK WARNING, THERE IS 610 VIRUSES IN THIS ZIP FILE, IGNORE THE TITLE.
http://fette-toolz.blackworld4u.de/virus/455VIREN.zip
DO NOT DOWNLOAD UNLESS YOU HAVE A UPDATED ANTI VIRUS SCANNER ON.
OK, Kaspersky 5.0 found 605 viruses in the zip file. extendia AVK found 610 I heard.
Good luck, just save the file to the hardrive, it doesnt auto extract, so just right click it our whatever and scan away
I'm a little confused cause it says scanned files, 594, and viruses detected, 605. Heres a screen:

Does someone with AVG want to take on scanning this file?
Allowing for a count variance of "1" because it will depend on how people scan a zipped file, some may count the zip file itself as 1x infection, but rather scan the contents....
At work, we scanned with file with
Symantec Corp Edition 8.0, 594 scanned, 587 infected
Symantec Corp Edition 8.1, same
Panda 594 scanned 588 infected
Sophos 594 scanned 587 infected
RAV didn’t find anything infected
F-Secure 594 scanned 587 infected
PC-Cillin 593 scanned 587 infected

Same here....open up the zipped file in Windows Explorer, or Winzip, or Enzip, or whatever you wish to unzip with, even when set to show all files, I only see 593 files inside of that zipped file.mnosteele52 wrote:Here you go YOSC, AVG 7.0 Pro

559 infected
I'm wondering who is correct in the number of files it contains.

I could see where some files perhaps might be infected with several diff viruses....that may account for some variance in the total infection count.

Hmm......me thinks there's something a bit odd about this zipped file, and the contents, and how the files are infected. (possibly a file with one or more buggers in it). Just some odd counts that we get with this one.mnosteele52 wrote:Old thread but I was curious.
Kaspersky Personal Pro 4.5 fully updated with the extended database.
Files - 594
Known Viruses - 415
Virus Bodies - 587

We should find some more "samples" of bug collections, to run tests on. Just for curiosity sake.

I completely agree YOSC, I have been using Kaspersky for about a week and a half now and all I can say is that NOTHING compares to it. It is more in depth and thorough than any other AV app I've seen, especially with the extended database. The extended database scans for malicious malware as well, as we said before - not spyware but malware. There are updates hourly for it and they guarantee to have a definition out within 3 hours of any newly discovered virus. Currently it scans for 102792 different viruses/malware, that's WAY more than anyone else.YeOldeStonecat wrote:Hmm......me thinks there's something a bit odd about this zipped file, and the contents, and how the files are infected. Almost any review or test you read about Kaspersky gives it a 98% or higher effective rating, I haven't seen a singe negative review or comment about it anywhere.
You should really give it a try YOSC, I guarantee you will love it.

I don't know where to find resources for more "collections of bugs" that we can all get our hands on and hit with the various AV apps the lot of us comprise...but it would be a fun little project here. I'll see what I can dig up, anyone else here wanna make a game of this?
Basically get a collection of viruses such as the one in this thread...just a bunch of other various ones. Also fiddle with sending e-mails with viruses. Setup "test machines" that we don't care if they get infected, receive the e-mails, etc.

I've run across is on a couple of stand alone machines I've fiddled with...mnosteele52 wrote: You should really give it a try YOSC, I guarantee you will love it.

Agreed it has a fantastic detection rate, a bit pokey in scan times though. NOD32 is still hands down my fave for stand alone machines. Tiny footprint, little CPU performance impact, and scan times faster than a raped ape. And the little bit I've seen of their networked version, with the management console, it looks sweet. We're about ready to replace an old McAfee networked version at a jet engine repair facility soon with NOD32 networked version. Will be my first hands on with a large network using it, I've only had a chance to fiddle with their mirror server at home on 4 PCs. But from the bit that I've seen...it looks like it potentially is even better than Symantecs CE management console.
Microsoft just renewed their site license with NOD32 a month ago!
