looking for a fast digicam...

Im looking to get a new 6-8 MP camera. The one thing that bugged me about my old one is that it was a bit slow for autofocus and shot response. I had the HP 945 5.3 MP camera (more of a home users camera). I dont wanna be dissapointed after i get a 8 megapixel thats worse than mine i have already. Mostly im looking for a fast camera, with 6-8 MP that has manual focus, super macro, fast auto focus, etc...

I was wanting a faster camera a while back and found fuji made a digital camera with really fast shutter speeds or autofocus... Let me try to find a website on it.

pretty nice figures (2.2fps) They do not give an exact shutter speed but 2fps is pretty fast

you may also want to try Nikon digital rebel.. I think its pretty too but its not at all 8mp.

yea, actually i did, but the price range i have in mind is around 800-900 or lower. I also would like a camera with an included zoom lense, which the 10D does not have.

You can get the Canon 300D (D-rebel) with two Kit lens's for a lot cheaper than the 10D.

any camera that's not a DSLR will focus relatively slowly. in that respect, sony has one of the finest AF systems using the laser hologram rather than the typical lamp. you might like the DSC-W1, DSC-p100 the DSC-V1, or the DSC-F828. the latter two can use external flashes.

do you think you really want macro mode? it is simply for closeups, and so-called "super" macros usually give images with high distortion.

likewise, regarding image quality, a DSLR is unbeatable. any camera is fine outdoors and indoors short-range with a flash, but DSLRs can take shots inside without flash with no problems, and can take an external flash.

nah, i dont really want a dslr, rather have a semi-SLR. I need pretty good Macro as i take closeups mostly and wide angles too. I will check out those sonys

i did mention the MP range of 6-8.... Right now i have a 5.3MP. how does the the DSC-F828 compared with the canon powershot pro1 or other 8 MPs?

it's not about the number of megapixels as most consumers think (i'm speaking as a reasonably experienced photographer). lots of stuff is important in picture quality.

as a very rough estimate, a 5MP camera gives a resolution of 2500x2000. an 8MP camera would be the equivalent of roughly 3200x2400. there is really not that much of a difference, especially for the average user who takes pictures to send to friends or print 4x6s of, where my old 2MP camera could make fine prints.

you are best off saving the money for a camera later. technology can only improve. the current crop of 8MP cameras have small sensors, and thus noisy images (speckly with unsmooth colour). on the other hand, 5MP cameras have been around for some time, and manufacuturers have improved them immensely over the past couple of years or so.

DSLRs have no such noise problems at the same level of 8MP cameras. they are the only fast solution you can get (eg you press the shutter and it takes a picture right away).

in addition, the sony F828 is a decent camera, but it's definitely one of the larger ones. where do you see yourself using it? there are a million types of cameras which i'll hopelessly try to sum up for you.

there are very compact ones that simply require the push of a button to work, and look awesome (Sony T1, W1, P100, Canon S400/410/500/SD10/SD110; i work alot with canon but there are plenty of other brands). controls are limited, but most have a macro mode of some sort.

there are compact ones that are larger but often offer more functionality (Canon A60 to 80, Sony P41, P73, P93, V1). i own the A80.

There are midsize ones that give better optics (Sony V1, Canon G5, Nikon 5400, Olympus 5060)

Long zooms give good telephoto capability/zooming in (Canon S1 IS, Olympus C-7##, Panasonic FZ10, Nikon 5700 and 8700, Minolta Z#)

then there are the most expensive consumer cams that are midsize with long zooms (Canon Pro1, Olympus C8080, Nikon 8700, Sony F828, Minolta A1/A2)

IMHO, the top line consumer cams are so expensive that *I* would prefer a DSLR. but it's really best to go someplace and try it out so you get a feel for what you're getting. i tried a bunch of cameras before plunking down the cash.

i no that i want 8MP because i have a 5 MP andi want bigger prints.

I would prefer a Semi-SLR, not a DSLR. I may consider waiting a bit till better 8MP cameras are released as a have read reviews on the current ones which sseem as if the cameras arent too refined. But right now, my major concern is that someone recommends which 8MPer delivers the best quality-low noise-low CA overall. Also i will not get the Sony 8Mper as it is known to have huge CA and purple fringing, as evidenced in test photos.

I print full size 20 x 30 inch posters from http://www.ofoto.com with my 6MP 10D, they look perfect.

I also have the Digital Rebel which is just as good as the 10D but with less features (and the plastic body).

Nope, that one shot of Gemini I have on the lift was taken with my little tiny credit card sized Canon S330.

what about the canon eos 300D with the 3x lens? do you think that a 6 MP slr is more with it than an 8 MP semi-slr?
