Trouble reinstalling Windows from a cyberpower PC

Post by fubarman »

I've always had this weird problem where 80% of the time when I boot up, it will block access to My COmputer, my music player, etc. I was trying to reinstall windows on my system however I have been having a great deal of difficulty. When trying to install after a fresh format, windows always seems to install to the 2nd slave HD (D :) . I tried to unplug the cable as well as the power supply to the 2nd HD however i cannot successfully install windows with the Recovery CD given to me. THere are consistently errors of not being able to write files to the HD during setup (e.g. driver.cab). After I skip all of the not found files (around 7 in all) it restarts my computer and just goes to a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I really need help on how to successfully reinstall windows on my system. Another important thing to mention is that in FDISK, just before formatting i'm prompted that there is a virus on the drive and i have the option of Y or N before continuing. However, when i did have the OS up and running my virus programs never detected anything of that nature. What are the steps I can take to successfully reinstall my OS? THank you for your help.

Sounds like the first hard drive has bad sectors on it, and could be evidence of an upcoming drive failure.

Have you tried putting the second drive on the primary IDE cable, low-level formatting it and then trying the OS install?
