digtal video encoding/ burning to dvd...

Post by pimptrizkit »

alright , i have a samsung scd-27 mini dv camcorder

and have adobe premiere pro,

i have been taking the video off of my camcorder and keeping it as avi but being upset about the size of the file, i took some time and figured out how to encode the video from avi to other file sorts. right now im changing the video into mpeg2 i also have a choice to do mpeg2-dvd and that splits the sound from the video and is about 10% smaller file w/ the sound included in file size.

i use nero6 to do my cd/dvd burning and i am wondering if i could make a dvd using mpeg2 or would i have to convert the video into the mpeg2-dvd ?

also my camcorder offers mpeg4 support , i have yet to figure this out.
i haven't looked to deep into the camera other then just gettin what i shoot off the camera :p

i haven't bought a memory stick for it either

i transfer my video over using a fire wire cable and a on board card. (abit nf7-s v2 mobo)

any info weather i asked for it or not would help. i just want to adviod burning costers and get the best looking dvd's to watch of my family on the tv.

also how would i make a menu screen?

well for making dvds, premire pro has "export to dvd" feature although taht is the barest of dvd making software. you can make a dvd though using that.

there is adobe encore dvd and ulead dvd workshop, both [expensive] fine programs for menu making from scratch.

ulead videostudio [cheap/bundled often] can also make your mpeg into a dvd very quickly with predefined menu styles although that is less sophisticated.

i've used all these programs extensively so i could probably easily give you directions!

thanks,
Jeremy

if you burn .mpg files rigiht ot a DVD, they will not play in normal dvd players. you will need to perform proper conversion on the files. in premiere pro...i think it's file-export-export to dvd

MPEG-4 is mostly for computer-based playback, and isn't compatible with dvd. if you intend to watch stuff on tv, never use this format which is more suited to internet sharing.

alright i found a computer at school int he av department that had encore on it. found a small help file at adobe. and i have created a back ground layer. w/ pic . a black button with text for another layer using the (+) in the name.

i used adobe to create the basics of the menu. now when i import it into encore i cant figure out how to tell the button witch video to start playing ? or how would i make it open up a new menu like a scene selection?

im sry about asking weird questions. but no one i know has real exsperience with these progs. even the teacher didn't kno how to work it. he said the prog was installed due to a student had intrest into it and was working his way into a video production class at the local Comunity collage.

i am willing to read tourtorials as long as thier as some pics to help aid me in what im doing (like show layer's ext.. ) b4 i read the tourtorial at adobe i really never figured out the layers thing. and i catch on pretty quick so it doesn't have to be a newb one.

FyI : here is the tut i used.

http://www.adobe.com/tips/encmenu/main.html

and if i had my serv working i would host the files so you could take a quick look and give me any advise :p

any ways thanks alot
