mid-high end GPUs ATI or nvidia

Post by Thor Walez »

I read a lot of stuff about ATI and nvidia! BUT I never saw a direct competition between ATI 9800pro 128MB and nvidia 5900XT 128MB

256bit mem, fast ram and same price is what I found out.

Models are:
- MSI FX5900XT VTD 128MB Retail
- SAPPHIRE Radeon 9800PRO 128MB Retail

Just watch my sig to see which graphic cards I use at the moment!

btw: I had a AIW 9800SE with omega drivers and nearly same speeds like a 9800XT in my machine AND the "old" 9500pro I have (pumped out max oc as possible) had nearly the same speed as the AIW (was a Hercules 256bit Rams and all 8 pipelines activated) Afterwards we checked results on the internet and the soft-moddes AIW 9800SE was in the level of "normal" 9800XT!!!!
But that is another story!

Thank you,
-Thor

9800pro vs. 5900xt there is no comparison, 9800pro

9600xt vs. 5900xt is a more fair comparison, and for the most part the 9600xt comes out on top

Running it at 1600 ??? Mines at 1600 X 1200 with 4x AA and 8x AF ... and runs great !!! I love it ... Still some typical game stutters online , but it seems everyone is having that problem ... nand it happens to me even at 1380 X 1024

Just out of curiosity what are you hitting on 3Dmark'03 ?? It seem that the 5600+ I am scoring is about average , but I'd expect a little more ... Some people seem t think the older drivers ( Cat 3.9 ) run much faster but a lower quality graphic ... I'm currently running the Omega 2.5.22 ( I think ) based on the Cat 4.2's

I'm debatin gon wheather I want to try Overclocking it ... Just not sure I want to go through the trouble of all the extra cooling and stuff at the moment.... I'm thinking I will enjoy it how it is now , so then I can have a new prject and new improvements later ( Kind of like the same new toy twice :) )

I linked this article not too long ago:
http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content ... 0xt&page=1

Has a 9800 128 megger in the comparison.

"Performance wise, the 5900XT flattens mid-range products from ATI."

Although by "mid-range"...they're referring to the 9600 family.

Against all I deceided the nvida!
I will put my 9500pro in my 2nd comp and sell the TI4200 for 70-80€ and power my main rig up with the 5900XT ... oc like 500/800 and nearly have a 5900 ... ATI power will remain in my 2nd rig! I trust nvidia more than ATI.

ATI makes awesome cards but the 5900XT reminds me like TI4200 !!! 2.8ns RAM will be the brakes in my spec but I´ve heard 800 will be possible (technical max. speed are 1000/2.8*2=~714mhz...)

WE WILL SEE on monday or tuesday.

-Thor

BTW: is that OK for 9500pro

default speeds:

and

nearly maxed out GPU speeds (351/589)

Wow I didn't realize the 9500's were that much faster than the 9600's.

My 9600 pro only gets 28k oc'ed.

I bet my 533 FSB is holding me back tho.

My video card isnt even a mid range card anymore though. Anything above a 9500 will beat the comparable nvidia.

The 9800 XT will beat the 5900 xt without a doubt. Not even a competition.

Read up on it.

Yes and but it is the same Core like 5950 only slower ram 2.8ns vs. 2.0ns
I think I will try it --> If Doom3 is faster on ATI platform I will switch cards (9500pro and 5900XT) from 1st rig to 2nd rig! The 9500pro has more power than we all thought (only the 128bit mem is a bottleneck!)
