windows xp installation on raid 0 question

Post by newbie1 »

ok, I want to install windows XP pro on a raid 0 setup. I have 2x120 GB Seagate Barracuda IV on a cmd csa649u raid controller. Installation won't work because the raid controller drivers are outdated and it seems the manufacturer isn't supporting it anymore (just e-mailed them for new drivers still waiting for an answer).

I'm aware of software raid under windows XP. Is it possible for me to run windows xp on software raid?

I have a spare 80GB hard drive and I installed windows xp on that, then I created a raid 0 setup with software raid for my 2 120giggers, but I want to run windows xp on raid 0.

Windows won't detect the drives as RAID, they will be seen as only a single HD.

Did you get past the F-6, and eventually boot to desktop? Or get some Stop 0x0### error?

did you setup a raid before installing windows ?

there should be a screen to do that , like hit F-1 or something to set it up i think ?

Can you get into the install routine with only one drive?

Just a thing to try....when XP first came out, I installed in on one of my old rigs using a Promise ATA-100 RAID controller. The latest drivers from their website would not work, would blow up on install after feeding the drivers at F-6. Yet....going back an old NT 4 version driver on the original driver disk that came with the box...worked fine with XP.

I had that happen on an MSI raid board once. What I did was install the os on a single drive, install all the drivers for the hardware including the raid drivers which window now see's and then ghost the box. Restart and setup raid and ghost it back using the ghosted image you just made.

Kind of a pain in the a$$ but it worked.
