My Windows Update doesn't work

Post by stevejrc »

my "Tools>Windows Update" doesnt work, it goes to this url and says cant reach server:

http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dl ... news&os=N5

I have to get the updates by typing windowsupdate.com in address bar. Thats works fine.

I have IE6 sp4 and latest updates..

Any Ideas?

They have been VERY busy the past few days, maybe it's just timing out.

It's their server. I just got there and I'm still waiting to be scanned 3 minutes later!

If it works when he types in the address, that makes me think it's not MS's servers. I know their servers have been busy past 2 days, but I updated a half dozen rigs yesterday, yes some started out slow..but they all worked fine. I've seen it much busier and slower.

Could be a corrupt regkey or other corruption caused by some BHO, even a past BHO that has been removed. Try repairing IE.

It worked today, but still briefly shows that redirect url before the update url in the status bar. Maybe its normal and if I had broadband it would be so quick you wouldn't see it?
