Road Runner HOW TO TWEAK
can any one help me increcase my speed i am using road runner cable modem which advertise 3000 down/384 up.
all i can get is 2100 down. i have did all the maint on the pc still is all i can get.
TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17520
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17520
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 115 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000

. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.
2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.
3. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.
4. Clear your temporary internet files.
5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.
6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot 1.2 http://beam.to/spybotsd & Ad Aware 6.0 http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES.
7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in Read1st link.
8. If you have Zone Alarm as a firewall uninstall it then visit Zonelabs.com for further instructions on removing it's left over junk.
9. Install Outpost Firewall http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost or Sygate Firewall http://www.sygate.com/, both have FREE and Pro versions and are heads above ZA.
10. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one IMMEDIATELY, AVG 6.0 http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php is an excellent FREE AV app.
11. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates.

I live in central Florida and have Roadrunner cable. The advertised download speed for home service is 2000 and for business service(which is more expensive) is 3000. I assume that you have home service, which is why you are getting no higher than 2100. If that is the case, change the DefaultReceiveWindow value from 384000 to 256000.

I noticed that you said to leave the GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize and TcpWindowSize values blank. I have been using 64240. I have always valued your opinion, so I was wondering why those 2 are now being left blank.

Captain the reason there being left blank is 2k/xp has a selftunning tcpip stack if you hard code ur rwin it could have adverse effects
Also road runner upgrading there caps to 3000/384 in most areas didn't you hear??

I received an E-mail from Roadrunner several weeks ago, stating that they had increased the speeds to their business class service to 768/3000, and if I wanted to subscribe to it. At $140.00 a month, I declined. I'm content to pay $45.00 a month for the home service with 384/2000 speeds. They also advised me that the download speed was still 2000 for home service and had not been increased to 3000.
I run speed tests at the Speakeasy sites frequently and my download speeds have been around 2000, give or take, so we're not getting 3000 in this area yet.

Roadrunner cable has apparently increased their download caps overnight from 384/2000 to 384/3000. I just ran some speed tests and got these results:
366/2784
336/2787
354/2784
After making adjustments in the DefaultReceiveWindow, GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize, and TcpWindowSize values, I got these results:
353/2848
348/2855
353/2848
What can I say? I'm happy!

Noone else gave me the settings that I'm using.
I changed DefaultReceiveWindow from 256000 to 384000 to reflect the download speed increase from 2000 to 3000.
I was getting better speeds by NOT leaving GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize amd TcpWindowSize blank, so I inserted a value of 96360.
The TCP/IP Analyzer test didn't like 96360 and recommended 128480, so I changed it to that.
I'm consistently getting a download speed of 2800(give or take a little), so I can't complain.
