Atkins diet
Atkins diet
Not wanting to thread jack... Brent go for the Atkins plan it works! I have lost 40lbs on it. You must exercise, no diet will replace that. Your bad cholesterol will actually drop. I have done a fair amount of cheating lately to see how far I can take it without putting the weight back on. Still have 30lbs to go and will be back on it hot and heavy now that the cheating part of the year is over.
Just make sure you follow the induction to the letter. I found the web site difficult to find the info but it is there. If ya need a link or two give me a yell.

Alot of people I know tried this diet and yes it does work, however you have to want it to be a life change. Almost everyone that I know that has been on this has gained the weight back shortly after stopping it.
I have 2 friends that have not went back to alot of carbs after a year and are still doing really good. So if your willing to eat a very limited amount of carbs for life this is the plan for you.

i think this diet is really funny, we are going to start having record numbers of people dropping dead of heart attacks at an early age. Think about it, the only place where u get cholesteral is from animal products. so when that is your main source of food, for an extended period of time, your eating a whole lot more cholesteral then you should. yea you might be able to lose weight buy eating steak and hamburgers (minus the bun of course) but think of how much your clogging your arteries.
for once probably ever, im with burke on this one. Its all about moderation, nature intended us to eat lots of different foods. Cut out the doritos and calorie filled sodas, and its amazing what will happen.
excersize works wonders and theres no negetive effects to that. I think its really sad how people will do all these negetive effects to their body just to lose some weight.

If you want to try a healty alternative to the Atkins diet, look into the South Beach diet.
Much better for your body in the long run.The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. Instead, it teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right fats--the good ones--so you lose weight, lower your cholesterol, reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes, and get rid of cravings without feeling hungry.

Then perhaps they can rename it to the Atkins Way of Life?
It's a diet, period. You can couch it in whatever palatable way you want.
Eat less, exercise more.
You don't need anything else. No books, no doctors, none of that.

This is a totally false, My blood pressure and cholesterol have both dropped considerably.
The American public should embrace any change in life that helps reduce this very overweight country.
Brent don't listen to them! go
here and check for yourself

You wanna lose weight? Eat less, exercise more.
That's it.
Thats whats working for me, slowly change your eating habits with smaller portions, and exercise, and vitamins. Now i eat what i want but get full on alot less, Ive lost 30 lbs in 4 months, and am still slowly but steadyly loosing. have gone from size 44 tight to 40 loose, and the muscle is coming along too! Just simple exercise and keeping active. When you think about it hauling around all that fat is weight llifting you just have to tone those hidden muscles as the fat goes away.

that only works if fat is hiding muscle..
it doesnt help if theres no muscle to be found.

And "hauling all that fat" around is not lifting weights. About the only thing it is accomplishing is straining your back. There is no substitute for going to the gym and actually lifting. I prefer to run or in the summer play basketball then do a light workout with weights afterwards. Not really trying to bulk up nor really trying to lose weight just trying to stay in reasonable shape. This seems to work for me.
Respect it.

All this talk of food is making me hungry.
hmmmmm Jaffa Cakes: 48 calories per cake (small 5 cm diameter round thing) and 73.8grams of Carbos per 100grams :P and I've just eaten 15 of them
I would never go on a diet, don't need to, yet... but I do consider eating less... I just feel hungry when I eat less and then need to fill the empty space. Maybe I would just need to wait until my stomach shrinks a little after eating smaller portions for a while.... but I could never give up on bread, potatoes, chocolate, sweets... and the things made from these things.

Frequency of meals is probably the most overlooked factor. Eat less, exercise more is great, but if your only eating one or two meals a day, the progress will be extremely slow if even noticeable at all. Starving yourself isn't the way to go either.. Some people already eat the proper amount, they just need to eat at the right frequency in order to keep the body's metabolism active.
Small portions in about 6 sittings is the ideal way to go. When you eat, your body's metabolism kicks in. The more often you eat, the more your metabolism remains active. As all of us sit here on this forum, we are burning calories at rest.. Those of us who have a more active metabolism are burning far more calories at rest than those of us eating one or two meals per day. When combined with proper exercise, the results are far more effective than "Johnny 2 meals" down the street who is eating & exercising the same amount.
The only time I see a particular diet as being necessary, is when there is a medical condition that requires certain things to be avoided. Otherwise, eat smaller portions more frequently and exercise more and you will be in great shape.
I fall under the "Johnny 2 meals" category and I'm terribly out of shape because of it. I've been going to the gym now for 2 months and haven't lost a pound.. Still skipping breakfast, filling myself up at lunchtime and eating late dinners and snacks before bed. Basically everything I can do to keep my metabolism at a slow crawl, I'm doing.. Even though I spend a few nights in the gym each week.. I could be doing a lot better had I been following the methods I learned from my personal trainer 6 yrs ago. Things are different now though.. I don't have the motivation and discipline I had back in High School towards working out. I simply got lazy after college & marriage I guess.
