Bad Week For me..........
Hey all, as Indy probably already knows, I've been in the hospital the last week. I went in for breathing and pulmonitory issues last friday and upon a cat scan and further tests I was diagnosed by saturday morning with Cancer.
It has since been discovered that I have Type B Lymphoma cancer that is approxamately 2" long and has wrapped itself around the veins/arteries leading back into the heart from the head, shoulders and arms. I have undergone my first of 6 two part chemotherapy treatments and 3 surgeries.
I just got home tonight from my first ever hospital visit which lasted me exactly 1 week of diagnonese and treatment. I have never had any serious illness or surgeries before so this is all very foreign to me and a little unnerving. Thankfully I think I will be able to return to comcast on light duty on Tuesday and will be able to continue with my CommTech Jeopardy team Dec. 5th in detroit.
This is a huge shock to my family as my 27th birthday is less than 2 weeks away and I am what I would consider good health, strong and fairly cardiovascular.
Anyway, just had to get it off my chest to someone.
Thanks for listening.

Oh man..... dammit.
I will add you in my prayers this evening.

I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.
jd...man o man....my heart goes out to not only you, but also your wife and your family. I can't imagine what must be going through your thoughts right now.
I'll include you in my prayers. If there's anyting else we at SG can do, ask.
You need someone to talk to, who's willing to listen...pm me and I'd be more than happy to give you a call or a dozen.
Good luck and God speed.
For those not folding....here's just one more reason. Folding really isn't about bragging rights for yourself or SG...In the end, it's about saving lives and making a difference. Lets fold.

JD, that's not the kind of thing a guy wants to hear but your youth and fitness are very much in your favor. You know that, so let the experts do their job. You can help a lot by keepng a positive attitude and having confidence in their skills.

I'm very sorry to hear that you're going through this at only 26 years old. I myself am in a high risk group for cancer and I only hope I never have to hear those dreaded words you have. I've already had some questionable tissue removed over the years and luckily have 'dodged the bullet'.
Unfortunately, I've seen my father and grandfather taken by the dreaded disease and know first hand what it can do. Keep your chin up, take care of yourself and maintain a superior state of mind and an attitude that you'll beat this thing -- remember, people every day beat it.
As a peer (I work for Comcast as well) and a faceless friend who understands what you're going through -- I'll say a prayer for you and your family.

Thanks all for the support. I am sure of myself I can beat this, my wife is the most caring, supportive and understanding person I could ask for to help me through all of this. We just helped her mother through breast cancer over the last year. Her mother was diagnosed 13 months before I was.
The good news is that this is the highest survival rate type of cancer there is and that I am young and healthy. It is not an operable type that they can go in an surgically remove though. Has to be treated with Chemotherapy and radiation. My first round of Chemo sent me into a ceisure like set of the "shivers/shakes" that really scared me and my wife but doctors tell me that I should not have another episode like that.
Other than severe discomcomfort from the 3 surgerie openings in my thorax and some moderate resporatory problems I seem to be doing ok. My energy level comes and goes and I am not able to sleep all through the night without at least a couple of the pain pills the doctor scribed for me.
My many thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
And now since I cant lay on my back anymore tonight, I think I'm going to go play a game of counterstrike to make me feel normal again.

I was just going to say that. I'm folding for you my friend.Originally posted by UOD
Well dude...it sounds to me that you have already won the mental battle...and I think your body will follow.
People will forget what you said... and people will forget what you did... but people will never forget how you made them feel.
JD, just remember, your body needs a strong and determined mind now. Focus your brain on killing cancer cells. Your body will respond.
I'm so sorry to hear this.
My high school friend passed last week of brain cancer at 30.
You'll beat it, you just wait and see!
Jim.

JD,
Have you ever though of trying out something called Tai Chi Chuan?
It is a martial art that at the same time helps you move something called Chi = energy, that the eastern world highly believes helps heal the body.
I know someone personally who was diagnosed with a terminal form of cancer and was given 6 months to live, but he beat it, and he claims Tai Chi saved his life.
Also have been other numerous stories of people beating cancer using Tai Chi.
No guarantees it will work for you but when you are fighting for your life I would be willing to try anything.

I actually used to study ShotoKan, Shuri-Ru and JuJitsu. Perhaps when my body recovers I will look into Tai Chi, I am familiar with its pricipals.
Thanks for all the well wishes all, I am trying to keep positive.
Its hard to not sleep more than 4 or 5 hours and there is kind of a constant pain but it is tolerable.
Thank you again for all of the support!

God Almighty JD, I am so sorry to hear that. You're too young for this crap, though your age may very well be the best ally you have.
Such a thing would be more appropo to someone who has abused themselves (like me). The more often I see such a thread, the longer I look in the mirror in the morning and quietly say to myself, "Well, moron, you had enough yet?".
I won't try to spout platitudes to you, please just believe me when I say I purely do wish you well. Listen to your doctors, stay close to your family, and try to have a good laugh once in a while with your friends, it'll help.
Oh yeah, and for what it's worth, I don't believe that prayer doesn't work.
