lol u cant have geforce 4 cooler on a ati card or at least i dont think so anyways they all suck, the zalman heatpipes are no good they way 1 pound and can snap your card in half. Also there is no room for an original fan on the card so therefor it actually gets more hotter with the zalman on then a original fan. i read a review before. but if u want a quiet case and want it to be a few C hotter then get a zalman heatpipe.

i can tell you bad things about them just don't know a good one though.

Hey extreme where can I pick up one of those? Are they better than the standard ATI cooling?

http://www.dangerden.com

As for the cooling part, i would imagine that they are better the stock cooler. Ask cyPHer_138 to make sure though, he has one on his vid card.

Yep they work great. :D I'm able to run the core at 480 in UT and Halo without artifacts. This program is the best one at detecting any artifacts in the core:

It's more picky than anything else I've run yet very accurate. I knocked the cards OC down to 450/400 and it runs it flawlessly. Better safe than sorry since I voided the warranty on this XT. ;)
Phigit, try doing a search on these sites to see what their using for an after market cooler for your card:

(You have to register here but it's worth it).

you can't use that dangerden block without the watercooler right? so i can just pop that on my card and won't need the cooler?

You have to have a water cooling set-up to use that block.

Extremes right. You'd cook your card without water flowing through it to absorb the heat the chip generates. Here's the gist of H20 in short. The metal barbs are the in/out takes. Cool water enters the block from the radiator and absorbs the heat. They're connected by 1/2" tubing which are connected to a reservoir, (captures trapped air and allows coolant to expand). The pump creates head and flow which moves the coolant. The coolant is distilled water and anti freeze, or another additive used to prevent corrosion and algae from forming. This is than cooled in a radiator and recirculated through the system.

I have pics in my Sig as does Extreme if you want a closer look.

How good are these heatpipes for cooling? I'm not worried too much about them snapping my card in half, otherwise they wouldn't be on the market.

People seem to get good results on them if they have good air flow on them. Thats why the Zalman with the optional fan is a favorite.

the Zalman ZM80A – HP VGA Heatpipe Cooler looks good

Anyone know how well it works without a fan to help it?

I have a GeForce3Ti with the noisey stock fan on it
It's only mildly overclocked atm, but I don't really mind going back to stock speeds if necessary.

The airflow in my case is pretty good as I have a 120mm exhust fan at the back quite close to the graphics card.

Cheers - kie

I'll be getting the Zalman heatpipe through FedEx tomorrow, so I'll write on here if it's good or not. I won't be using a fan on my heatpipe.

Temps will rise a few degrees using a heatpipe Without a fan to cool it. But since you said you have good airflow, you could use it without a fan.

Well I bit the bullet and got a Zalman ZM80A.

It's now installed and appears to be working fine with a fan blowing over it.
After several hours, the case temps have not increased :)

I do have a 120mm exhust fan next to the graphics card though, which I sure is helping.

I was a little concerned about people comments about the weight of the heatsink - but I didn't find it too heavy - it's aluminium after all. Hopefully my graphicscard will agree.

Most importantly no more graphics card fan noise :D
